Miu Miu’s latest accessory has me charmed

A true ‘It’ bag should find itself catapulted into fashion’s limelight with ease. A classic style with timeless charm that’s easy to love. Enter, the Miu Miu Aventure bag. There’s no brand more synonymous with cool girl playful and rebellious attitude than Miu Miu and the Aventure bag is amongst the cult label’s hottest new designs. Released as part of Miu Miu’s Autumn/Winter 2024 collection, the Aventure is already being lauded as a celeb ‘It’ bag, with a relaxed structure and that distinctively Miu Miu lived-in look we all love.

Design Features & Archival Influences

The unique lived-in look of Miu Miu leather is one of my favourite things about the Italian label. Add to this the Aventure bag’s softly relaxed structure and statement belt detail and we’ve got ourselves a design which looks and feels like a long-loved brand classic – except it’s fresh off the runway.

Perhaps this can be explained by the design’s archival influences. Fashion has had more than its fair share of archival bag revivals in recent years. So I love when a brand offers us something new, drawing on its past triumphs to use as a springboard for contemporary styles that feel fresh and exciting. The Aventure design was inspired by a doctor bag from 2009 but has no shortage of contemporary edge. The utility aesthetic and practical appeal of this style is seen in the belt detail that wraps around the top of the bag. It fastens at the front with an antiqued gold-tone clasp for a hardware-heavy finish that feels delightfully retro. And I love how this clasp can be adjusted so if you want to pack a bit more in the bag you can make the belt a little looser to fit more in.

One thing’s for sure about the Aventure bag – it’s got plenty of charm (in more ways than one). Bag charms were undoubtedly one of the standout fashion trends of last year and Miu Miu was one of the labels leading this flurry of newfound love towards accessories for our accessories. The Aventure design makes the perfect canvas for showcasing trinkets, charms and plenty more. The Miu Miu girl’s fashionably messy aesthetic is definitely a fun and appealing alternative to perfectly poised displays of style and I’m so here for it. More than simply an ‘It’ bag, the Miu Miu Aventure really feels like THAT bag. That easy, no-fuss bag you reach for as you’re rushing out the door. That design you chose to personalise with playful charms … just because.

Colour & Size Options

When it comes to colour, Miu Miu is keeping things simple. It comes in class black, plus oak (a chestnutty hue) and briarwood (the brand’s take on the enduringly popular chocolate brown ‘It’ colour phenomenon)

The size options is where we start to see a bit of variation when it comes to features and uses. Available in micro, mini, small and medium, there’s plenty to choose from. The micro iteration acts as a quirky charm. The mini, although very compact in size, can actually hold all of your bare necessities – a cardholder, an iPhone 15 Pro Max size phone, which is a lot more than can be said of some of the mini bags we’ve seen trending in past years. The small size is my personal favourite. Compact enough to easily take everywhere but big enough for more than just the basics, it’s quickly become one of the styles I make a grab for at the door.

The regular size has the same look and proportions as the mini and small but with more room inside which is a big plus if you want a compact-looking design that’s surprisingly roomy. But a drawback is that it’s only available in briarwood and black, not oak. The medium option (it’s actually the biggest of the bunch) is the perfect size for an everyday lug-around bag if that’s what you’re after. It has different proportions entirely to all of the other sizes and subsequently a very different look but I think the simple, slouchy everyday tote feel suits the Aventure bag’s no-fuss aesthetic perfectly.
