Behind The Design
The Loro Piana Extra Bag takes its inspiration from an existing brand classic – the Extra Pocket. This small pouch has established itself as a firm favourite amongst Loro Piana’s legions of impeccably dressed merino wool and cashmere favouring fans since launching in 2019. The ingeniously simple top-handle design complete with a handy zip opening around the top section was previously lauded as the go-to pouch of tastemakers in search of effortless simplicity and that sense of innate elegance that Loro Piana is synonymous with.
The Extra Bag takes this one step further, transforming this original design concept into an easy everyday bag. What’s more, it’s pretty comparable price wise with its smaller pouch predecessor, the Extra Pocket, despite offering a lot more practically. While the Extra Pocket offers a top handle and a long crossbody strap, Loro Piana’s Extra Bag has a strap with a two-way carry function so you can wear it crossbody (this is undoubtedly my favourite way) or double it up to style as a shoulder bag.
It’s no secret that exquisite materials and impeccable craftsmanship are hallmarks of the Loro Piana brand. So, of course, the Extra Bag comes in an impressive assortment of the finest quality materials. From classic calfskin (smooth or with a subtle grained finish for added texture), to virgin wool, cashmere and alpaca combinations (an esteemed brand signature), plus the finest exotics including ostrich and alligator leathers.

Features & Functionality
Famously an avoider of gimmicky, trend-led styles, Loro Piana instead favours the enduring appeal of classic design and the Extra Bag epitomises this. An ingeniously simple design that prioritises functionality and wearability, this is a bag I’ve found myself reaching for over and over without even thinking about it. Bags boasting a soft, boxy rectangular shape complete with a top handle and crossbody strap always prove a versatile option. Sometimes these kinds of styles can prove a little too precious in my collection for when I’m in a rush and just want to grab something before heading out of the door so that’s why I’ve been adoring Loro Piana’s latest take on this style.
Much like one of its cashmere sets that make me feel like I’ve been wrapped up in a cloud, the Extra Bag is about comfort and usability first and foremost. It’s a nice alternative to a lot of the vanity pouch designs on the luxury bag market. Despite the beauty of this style, sometimes it can look too much like you’re carrying a makeup bag on a long strap, but the Extra design definitely feels like it’s meant to be carried as a bag, owing to its soft corners and lack of a top handle. I think it makes a great casual and super minimalist alternative to the likes of the Hermès Kelly Pochette (AND gives you a decent amount more room).

Loro Piana’s Extra Bag has emerged as an unlikely favourite in my handbag collection recently (a tricky feat, trust me). Long after the “quiet luxury” phenomenon has quietened down, we’re all still craving a little sophisticated simplicity in our wardrobes, and this includes our accessories, too.
So it’s safe to say that this design is now a regular go-to for me, especially on those days when I’m craving the simpler things in life.
