Forward-thinking footwear
The beauty of practicality has seeped into every part of our wardrobes this season, including shoes – and I’m so here for it. From the boots of the moment to classic pieces that have been given a makeover, shoe trends for Autumn/Winter 2024 are all about having fun with versatile styles we actually want to wear. Think kitten heels that give our feet some much-needed respite, plus suede, burgundy and chocolate brown options that we’re already planning outfits around in our heads. Let’s break down the hottest shoes of the season, and where to shop them.
Riding Boots
Fashion is saying giddy-up this season so I am complying. Riding boots have become my newest obsession and it’s very easy to see why. They’re so unbelievably comfortable and lean into the utility dressing trend while still feeling fun. I love riding boots in classic black leather – they look super sleek and go with just about anything. But if you want a different take on the classic equestrian-inspired style, switch up colours and textures – I vote for brown suede and burgundy patent leather options from Hermès and Gucci.

Platform Loafers
Next up is a trend that’s been somewhat polarising on the fashion scene. Platform loafers. Nobody appreciates the beauty of a classic loafer quite like me, but elevating the style by adding a platform can be a fun concept and a cool twist on this must-have traditional shoe. I love Gucci’s take on the trend that gives the house’s iconic Horsebit loafer design an exaggerated platform, chunky block heel and slingback strap – VERY cool. If you like the concept but still want a pair of shoes that can slot into your workwear wardrobe, try a slightly elevated flatform design.

Kitten Heels
My love for kitten heels is well documented by now. Sleek, comfortable and among the most versatile styles on the market, kitten heels are always a good investment. My personal favourites come in a point-toe silhouette (I feel as if I haven’t taken my burgundy ones from Miu Miu off since I got them). I’ve also found some great high-street options, too.

Mary Janes
Such a classic, quintessential footwear style deserves a spot on this list. Great for casual office fits or simple weekend looks, my favourite options come in suede and crystal-embellished forms. Plus, the cult-worthy Maison Margiela Tabi variation is a cool twist on a retro-inspired design.

Suede Shoes
There’s no doubt about it, suede is the material of the season for AW24. And when it comes to shoes, there’s no shortage of suede options to indulge in. Western-inspired boots, my favourite UGGs and Saint Laurent’s Le Loafers in dreamy dark chocolate suede are my go-tos.

Burgundy Shoes
It’s time for more burgundy love. I’ve been crushing on this colour since summer so my wardrobe is more than prepared for this season’s burgundy obsession. I love patent leather burgundy styles that add a pop of colour and glossy sheen to make my outfits feel super elevated. And for something more simple, brownish burgundy shades on boots, kitten heels, loafers and ballet flats work super well – COS plus & Other Stories have some great options.

Mules
I’ve always loved the simplicity of classic mules – and this season I’m slipping on plenty. There are some great minimalist styles from Loewe, Bottega Veneta and MM6 Maison Margiela. Plus, I love the options that feel a little more statement – think satin textures, leopard print, square-toe silhouettes and cool hardware details.
