Because in Italy, coffee is never just coffee
After living in Milan for the past few years, I can confidently say I’ve had more than enough time (and caffeine) to explore the city’s coffee scene – from the hidden neighbourhood gems to the latest Instagram-worthy openings.
I absolutely love discovering new spots for a quick oat latte or a peaceful matcha break with friends, especially when the vibe is just right. There’s something about the Milanese café culture that makes every moment feel special – whether it’s a strong espresso standing at the bar or a lazy brunch in the sun.
Milan is one of those cities that may not have as many historical landmarks as, say, Rome – but what it might lack in ancient ruins, it certainly makes up for in style, elegance, and energy. It’s a city that’s beautifully designed, easy to walk around, and full of little corners where you can unwind over great food and even better coffee.
Whether you’re visiting for the fashion, the design, the restaurants or just to soak up the Milanese way of life, this city has a way of making you feel like you belong. And for me, there’s no better way to enjoy it than with a cup of something warm in hand.
So today, I’m sharing my personal favourites – the coffee spots I keep coming back to for their beautiful interiors, kind service, excellent coffee, and a little something sweet or savoury on the side. These are the places that make everyday life in Milan feel just a bit more special.
And if you’re also looking for where to have lunch or dinner while in the city, I’ve written a full post with my favourite restaurants too – you can find it under
1. Atelier Prato
A recently opened spot I discovered not long ago, and even though I’ve only been once, it quickly left an impression. The brunch menu is fresh, international, and beautifully presented. Their matcha is also really good – definitely a place I plan to return to soon.

2. Maison Kitsune
If you know the Paris one, you’ll recognise the vibe. This café has such a lovely atmosphere – and their coffee is excellent. I usually go for a matcha here, and they also have great on-the-go snacks, perfect when I’m rushing around the city.

3. Starbucks Reserve
Yes, it’s a Starbucks – but not just any. One of only a handful of Reserve locations in the world, and honestly, a must-visit in Milan. Set inside a stunning historic building in the city centre, it’s massive, beautiful, and full of energy. They offer endless coffee options, pastries, and breakfast dishes. I always recommend it to first-time visitors.

4. ARKET CAFÉ
Tucked inside the Arket store, this café might just be one of my favourite quick coffee stops in the city. Their vegetarian menu is surprisingly good, and the coffee is always spot on. It’s relaxed, easy, and a great place to pause during a busy day.

5. Pan
Technically just outside of Milan, but worth the detour. PAN is a Japanese-inspired coffee spot with a minimalist interior and a thoughtful menu. Everything feels curated and calm – the kind of place that makes you want to slow down and stay a little longer.

6. SIGNOR LIEVITO
If you love a proper coffee and a good cinnamon roll, this is the place. Simple, local, and consistently delicious. It’s not overly styled, but the flavours speak for themselves – I often stop by for a cosy, no-fuss coffee break.

7. Marchesi
An iconic Milanese classic. Marchesi is as traditional as it gets, and that’s exactly why I love it. They serve the best ham and cheese toast I’ve ever had, and I always go back for it. The pastry selection is stunning, and with several locations around Milan, it’s easy to stop by wherever you are in the city.
