My Favourite Food Spots in the City
There’s something truly magical about Tokyo. Every time I visit, I fall in love all over again and this trip was no different. Filippo and I spent a few beautiful days in the city over the Easter holidays, mixing business with pleasure. We spent some time in Osaka for a day, where we visited the Expo – but the rest of our stay was all about food, exploring, and shopping (I never miss a chance to indulge in Tokyo’s amazing shopping scene). Between 20,000 steps a day and constant eating, I think it’s safe to say we had a blast.

Day One: Pancakes, Matcha & Burgers
Our Tokyo adventure kicked off with a few essential spots that we couldn’t miss. We started the morning at Flippers Pancakes – a place I’d definitely recommend if you want to try authentic Japanese-style fluffy pancakes. It’s a charming spot and a great way to ease into the city’s food scene. If you can, definitely book ahead to avoid waiting in long lines – it can get busy!
Afterwards, we made our way to The Matcha Tokyo. Now this place is something special. I loved it so much that we actually went three times during our trip! The atmosphere is so soothing, and of course, their matcha drinks are a must-try. Yes, you’ll have to wait in line, but it’s worth it – especially for those cozy moments of matcha bliss.
For dinner, we went back to Henry’s Burger – it’s a spot we always return to. Honestly, it’s the best burger I’ve ever had. Simple, rich in flavour, and just the right size after a long day exploring. If you’re visiting Tokyo, don’t miss this place -consider this a big recommendation.

Day Two: A Quick Osaka Escape
I know this is a Tokyo guide, but since we dedicated a day to Osaka during this trip, I couldn’t leave you without some recommendations in case you’re planning to visit it as well. Filippo and I were there for the Expo, which was an incredible experience, but we also made sure to enjoy some local food. Our first stop was Rikuro’s Namba, famous for its fluffy, almost cloud-like pancakes. It’s quite a touristy spot, so don’t expect anything life-changing, but it’s definitely fun to try while you’re sightseeing. Plus, the pancakes are perfect for an Instagram shot! If you’re planning a day trip to Osaka, this is definitely a place I’d recommend adding to your list.

Day Three: A Taste of Authentic Ramen & Luxe Wagyu Experience
While walking around the area where Oreryu Shio Ramen is located, we happened to notice a long queue, which piqued our curiosity. We decided to join in and see what the hype was about. The place has a great vibe, and the food didn’t disappoint – authentic and satisfying. The shrimp dumplings, cheesy gyoza, and spicy ramen made for a perfect lunch. I’d definitely recommend it for an authentic and casual meal.
For dinner, we indulged in something special. Wagyu Mafia is a private members’ club with an exclusive vibe. It’s not your everyday dinner spot, but we were lucky enough to have the experience. The Wagyu and Kobe beef were melt-in-your-mouth amazing, and everything from the presentation to the service was top-notch. If you ever get the chance, don’t miss it.

Day Four: Strawberry Pancakes and a Café Break
On our last day, we went for a more relaxed pace. First stop: Ishiya Nihonbashi. If you’re into pancakes, their strawberry ones are to die for. The sweetness of the strawberries paired with the light, fluffy texture of the pancakes was pure perfection.
Later, we headed to Dover Street Market – it’s not a restaurant, but it’s definitely worth a visit for a quick bite. We had the lentil soup, omelette, carrot cake, matcha, and fresh juice, and honestly, everything was 10/10. It’s the perfect place to take a break from sightseeing, grab something light, and enjoy a more relaxed atmosphere. Plus, you can squeeze in some shopping while you’re there!

Bonus Bites: Convenience Store Gems
Now, if you find yourself in need of a quick snack on the go, Tokyo’s convenience stores have some surprising gems. My personal favourite: the 7/11 Egg Sandwich. Don’t knock it until you try it – it’s the perfect balance of simple and satisfying.
And if you’re feeling adventurous, grab one of the frozen Hi-Chew treats from the convenience stores. These chewy, icy sweets are super refreshing and perfect for a quick cool-down on a warm afternoon.
My Tips for Eating in Tokyo
Tokyo’s food scene can feel overwhelming, but a few things make it easier. Google Translate always comes in handy, especially in smaller spots. Street food is a must- affordable and often surprisingly delicious.

Tokyo will always have a special place in my heart, and the food is definitely one of the reasons. From matcha lattes to melt-in-your-mouth Wagyu, there’s no end to the amazing dining experiences you can have here. Until next time, Tokyo.
