Savette Symmetry Pochette Review

And the clutch bag obsession continues …

You guys know how I love heritage fashion labels that have ruled over the industry for decades. But there’s no denying the thrill of uncovering a new brand to obsess over (like only a loyal fashion cult follower knows how). So when a new name manages to pique my interest, I take notice. I’ve been gradually becoming more and more infatuated with the brand Savette for a while now. Launched in 2020 by Amy Zurek, a former accessories designer for The Row and Khaite, this leather goods label has garnered a reputation as one of fashion’s newest cult accessories brands.

There’s a Savette design in particular that’s been dubbed an anti ‘It’ bag – proudly transcending trends to create a modern heirloom. And I’ve managed to get my hands on it. The Savette Symmetry pochette, a rectangular clutch bag, is part of Savette’s Symmetry family. Timeless and understated, with a subtly bold finish that masterfully completes any look I wear it with, Savette’s Symmetry pochette has got everything I look for in a clutch. It’s earned itself a spot on our agenda for handbag talk this week. I’m unpacking all of the good stuff, from the bag’s design influences and tips on how to style, plus my thoughts on why the Savette Symmetry pouch is a true modern classic.

Honouring Italian Craftsmanship & Forgoing Flashiness

When it comes to the Savette brand, Zurek’s admiration and respect for Italian craftsmanship is clear. Every bag is handcrafted in an atelier outside of Florence, honouring the artisanal spirit of the region. And this superior craftsmanship is no better shown than through the design of Savette’s Symmetry clutch. The simple shape and absence of any embellishments certainly channel the rejection of flashy details in favour of a more minimalist approach. But the prominent oval-shaped turnlock fastening, selection of buttery smooth Italian leather and suede materials, and offering of rich neutral shades make it more than simply another understated bag design. Rather, the Symmetry clutch is masterful in its minimalism.

The Savette Symmetry Family

The crown jewel in Savette’s brand, the Symmetry family features a curated selection of bag styles. In terms of clutches, in addition to the Savette Symmetry pochette, there’s also the Slim Symmetry pochette with a dramatically elongated rectangular shape. So great if you love the statement East-West bag style (this beauty is definitely next on my wishlist)

Other non-clutch versions of Savette’s Symmetry bags are the Symmetry 19 and 26 (the number denotes the bag’s length in centimeters). These square and rectangular bags come with a long strap to be worn on the shoulder or crossbody – great if you want a little more versatility than the pochette clutch offers. There’s also a wallet version with a strap which feels like Savette’s answer to the famously sought-after Chanel Wallet on Chain (WOC). Every style from the Symmetry range shares the same rigid boxy structure and each design stands out thanks to the signature Symmetry turnlock fastening at the center.

Mid-Range Price Point & Comparisons With Competitors

Savette has got a lot of people talking because of its price point. Mid-range brands like DeMellier have garnered a cult following while capitalising on this notoriously underutilised sector of luxury. And Savette seems to be embracing the concept of expanding this section of the industry by occupying the higher end of the mid-range luxury market. The shape, structure and style of the Symmetry pochette reminds me a little of the Hermès Kelly Pochette and Loro Piana Extra bag, while the Slim Symmetry pochette is most comparable to the Hermès Kelly Cut and Bottega Veneta Andiamo clutches. So it’s definitely a huge selling point that these Savette designs are more attainably priced than their ultra-luxury competitors.
