Your Guide to the Ultimate Weekend Getaway ...

Travelling has always been one of my favourite ways to broaden horizons and truly enrich life. I believe that everyone should travel as much as they can – if that is what makes them happy. Business trips are one thing, and I do enjoy them too as they bring their own balance of work and pleasure, but travelling privately, with family or people I love, is something entirely different. There are so many beautiful places in the world I have already visited, and just as many still sitting on my never-ending wishlist.

Today, I wanted to share with you a few European destinations that I think are perfect for a weekend break. Whether you are planning something in September, when the last of the warm days gently turn into autumn, or during the festive season in winter, these cities are an absolute delight. So let’s begin…

Barcelona

Barcelona will always have a very special place in my heart, and it remains one of my favourite European cities. The Spanish spirit, the culture, the energy – the entire vibe of the city is simply irresistible. I find myself coming back at least twice a year, and each time I fall in love all over again. The climate is absolutely perfect, and if you visit in September or October, you can still count on warm days and even spend a few hours relaxing at the beach. Beyond that, Barcelona is filled with stunning architecture, iconic landmarks, beautiful cafés, amazing food spots, well-kept parks, and charming streets to wander. The city is not small, but with three or four days you can truly get a wonderful taste of everything it has to offer.

Rome

Even though I live in Milan now, I never stop exploring the beauty of Italy – and Rome always takes my breath away. The Eternal City is magnificent: it feels like every corner is steeped in history, and every street hides another masterpiece. From ancient ruins and grand piazzas to timeless art and world-famous monuments, Rome itself is a living museum. My personal recommendation is to stay close to the city centre so you can start your mornings in cosy cafés, enjoying the perfect espresso and a buttery croissant before heading out to explore. Along with its rich history and architecture, Rome is also wonderful for shopping, delicious restaurants, incredible coffee, and the sweetest desserts. It is one of those cities where every single day feels like a celebration of life.

Amsterdam

Amsterdam is a city I have visited a few times, and every time I leave, I know I will be back again soon. It has such a unique energy – vibrant, picturesque, and yet very calming at the same time. With its charming canals, bridges, and narrow houses, Amsterdam feels almost like a painting come to life. The weather in the Netherlands can be on the cooler side, and autumn tends to arrive earlier here than in Italy or Spain, but that only adds to its charm. Even when it’s rainy, the city has a certain beauty that makes you want to wrap up in a cosy coat and wander around. Spring and autumn are particularly beautiful seasons to visit, with tulips and colourful leaves adding even more magic to the atmosphere.

Vienna

Vienna is one of those cities that feels both grand and welcoming at the same time. Its architecture is breathtaking – from opulent palaces to elegant boulevards, it truly makes you feel like you’ve stepped into a different era. There’s so much to see and do, from museums and concerts to charming cafés and local traditions. And of course, no trip to Vienna is complete without indulging in the famous Sachertorte, which tastes even better when enjoyed in a classic Viennese café. I think Vienna is especially beautiful during the Christmas and New Year period, when the city glows with festive lights and the Christmas markets bring an incredible sense of magic.

Berlin is a city unlike any other – modern, dynamic, and full of contrasts. It’s a place where history and contemporary culture coexist in the most fascinating way. You’ll find iconic landmarks like the Brandenburg Gate and remnants of the Berlin Wall, alongside trendy neighbourhoods filled with art, design, and creativity. The food scene is also thriving, from traditional German specialities to some of the best international restaurants. Berlin has a raw, authentic energy that makes it perfect for those who want to experience a city that never really stands still. It’s vibrant, inspiring, and always full of surprises.
