My Essentials for the Trip
There are very few cities in the world that have left me as enchanted as Tokyo has. Every corner of the city offers something extraordinary – from its vibrant culture and unmatched food scene to the perfect blend of tradition and futuristic innovation. Last week, I had the most magical few days exploring Tokyo once again, soaking in everything it has to offer. If you are still considering a trip, let me tell you: April and May are absolutely ideal months to visit. The weather is just right, and if you were looking for a sign to book your ticket – this is it!
After sharing my Tokyo Food Guide with all the food lovers out there, today I want to dive into something just as important: what to pack and what to wear when visiting Tokyo.
Getting Around in Tokyo: Weather and Footwear Tips
Tokyo’s seasons are very distinct – summers are incredibly humid, winters can be surprisingly cold, and springtime (especially April and May) offers that perfect, mild weather we all dream about when travelling. Still, one thing you should always have with you is a light cardigan or jacket, as air conditioning inside shops, hotels and restaurants can sometimes be quite strong and unpredictable.
Another thing you’ll quickly notice is just how much you walk in Tokyo. On some days, I easily passed 20,000 steps without even realising – the city truly pulls you in with its endless opportunities to explore. Plus, many popular attractions involve queuing, so you’ll often find yourself standing for long periods. That’s why wearing the most comfortable shoes you own is absolutely essential. For my daytime adventures, I relied on my favourite ballerina flats, comfortable sandals, and loafers. In the summer months, stylish yet supportive slippers would also be perfect. Trust me, comfort always comes first when it comes to footwear in Tokyo.

Daytime Outfits
During the day, I lean towards outfits that are both comfortable and versatile – ideal for long walks, casual exploring, and even quick stops at a stylish café. Some of my go-to combinations include wide-leg trousers paired with a simple polo shirt, a lightweight linen maxi skirt styled with an easy top, and of course, the timeless combination of jeans with a crisp white shirt or a simple T-shirt.
I always prefer pieces that can be mixed and matched throughout the trip – they save space in your suitcase, work beautifully with flat shoes, and still look polished and modern. For trousers and jeans, I usually go for loafers or ballerina flats, while skirts pair effortlessly with comfortable sandals or stylish slippers.
I’m also sharing a few outfit photos here to give you some inspiration for your next trip!

Evening Outfits
When it comes to evenings – especially when I have a reservation at a special restaurant – I love switching things up with slightly dressier looks. Since I know I won’t be walking as much at night, I sometimes opt for kitten heels, elegant flats, or a low block heel. I pair these with a more polished outfit – a chic dress, a sleek two-piece set, or tailored trousers and a blouse – depending on the vibe of the place.
Evenings in Tokyo offer a wonderful opportunity to showcase my personal style, whether I’m heading to a high-end dining experience or exploring a vibrant neighbourhood. Of course, on more relaxed evenings, like when I’m just walking to grab my favourite burger, I’d probably go for trousers, a cardigan, and loafers for a laid-back stroll.

When packing for Tokyo, comfort, versatility, and a touch of personal style should guide your choices. Locals value neatness and put-together outfits, so even casual looks often feel polished. Stick to breathable fabrics in warmer months and layer smartly when it gets cooler.
One thing I noticed during my trip is that while Tokyo is very fashionable, it’s never about being overdressed – it’s about looking effortless and feeling comfortable in your own style. Also, don’t forget to check the weather forecast before you travel – sudden rain showers are not uncommon, so a small foldable umbrella in your bag can be a lifesaver!
Trust me, with a few smart outfit choices, you’ll be ready to explore every corner of this amazing city in style.
