The Art of Packing
There’s something liberating about planning a weekend escape – a few days away, just enough to recharge, change the scenery, and feel inspired again. But while booking the trip is exciting, packing for it often feels like a mini-crisis in the making. How do you fit everything you might need into one suitcase, especially in spring when the weather can turn in a moment?
Here’s the thing – you don’t need to bring everything. You just need to bring the right things.
Start With the Essentials
The capsule wardrobe is the ultimate answer to weekend packing stress. It’s not just a trend – it’s a mindset. The idea is simple: pack a small number of high-impact, versatile pieces that you can mix and match depending on your mood, the weather, or the plans that pop up. And yes, it is possible to look effortlessly chic without checking in luggage.
For a 3-4 day spring getaway, I always start with a few trusted essentials. A pair of jeans that fit just right – usually high-waisted and either straight or wide leg. Then come my tailored wide-leg trousers, which are perfect for those moments when I want to feel a bit more polished. A classic white tee or shirt is always in my bag, along with my go-to loafers, which somehow manage to be both comfortable and elegant at the same time.

Layering Is Everything
With those basics in place, layering becomes your best friend – and your secret weapon. A soft knit for chilly mornings, a blazer that instantly pulls everything together, and a trench coat, because what is spring without at least a little bit of unpredictable weather? These are the kinds of pieces that give you flexibility. One day it’s jeans and a knit for a long walk and a coffee break; the next, those same jeans take on a whole new vibe with a blazer and good sunglasses.
But if there’s one piece I swear by when I’m trying to travel light, it’s a long dress. Choose one that flows, that moves with you, that feels effortless but special. During the day, I’ll wear it with loafers and a light cardigan, and I still feel put-together enough to pop into a gallery or have lunch outdoors. But that same dress, paired with heels, a small bag, and a sharp blazer, suddenly feels like the perfect evening look – no outfit change necessary, just a little transformation.

Let Accessories Do the Work
And of course, never underestimate the power of accessories. A belt, a good pair of earrings, maybe a wide-brim hat or statement sunglasses – these are the pieces that take up no space but completely change the tone of an outfit. If there’s anything that really doesn’t take up room in your suitcase, it’s earrings and sunglasses – which means you can easily throw in an extra pair or two, just in case. I don’t pack many, but I always make sure to bring a few that I love. They’re like punctuation marks for your look – small details that say a lot.

At the end of the day, capsule packing is really about feeling free. Free from overthinking, from dragging heavy bags around, from the endless “what should I wear?” dilemma. You end up wearing what you love, what makes you feel good, and what actually works. Less clutter, more confidence.
So next time you’re packing for a little spring escape, try curating instead of cramming. Choose pieces that make sense and make you feel like your best self. Because when you’re not worrying about what’s in your suitcase, you get to fully enjoy what’s in front of you.
