Iconic Reinventions: Bags You’ll Want to Know About

The Hermès Spring/Summer 2025 collection radiated effortless sophistication with a playful touch. This season, Hermès ventured into new territory while honouring its heritage, bringing a refreshing twist to its iconic pieces. The collection was all about contrasts—traditional elegance blended seamlessly with contemporary details. The show featured an array of luxurious materials and innovative designs, from sleek, oversized hardware to rich, textured leathers, setting the tone for bold yet timeless accessories. With bags like the Birkin à l’envers and the return of the Sac Maximors, Hermès struck the perfect balance between classic allure and modern flair. SS25 invites us to embrace this season’s luxurious, versatile pieces—where functionality meets style, and every detail tells a story.

Us bag lovers were really treated by Hermès this season, with more bags than usual on the runway – and there was no shortage of variety. Standouts included a denim Cargo Birkin and So Black Kelly Sellier that I’ve already added to my Hermès wishlist. And, of course, I have to mention the mighty return of the JPG Birkin, in a smaller 29cm size. This extremely unique Hermès design was released as part of Jean Paul Gaultier’s first collection for the house back in 2024, so to see it back on the runway two decades later was quite a sight. It’s the only Birkin that you can wear as a shoulder bag – so how could I not be intrigued?!

Flipping Tradition: The Allure of the Birkin à l’Envers

Fresh off the Hermès SS25 runway, the Birkin à l’envers captures attention with its innovative design. This stunning bag flips the classic Birkin inside out, showcasing its luxurious inner lining on the outside. It’s not just a bag; it’s a bold statement that combines practicality with playful elegance. What sets this piece apart is its versatility. Plus, it was presented in an array of earthy neutral tones to lend a timeless, utilitarian feel. The Birkin à l’envers is poised to become a standout piece for SS25, perfect for those looking for a super-unique take on a house icon.

The Hermès Veau Volupto Sac Maximors made a striking reappearance on the SS25 runway, drawing attention to its understated elegance and refined details. This bag, crafted from supple Veau Volupto leather, is known for its smooth texture and softness, which perfectly balances luxury and practicality. The Maximors stands out for its signature oversized hardware, especially the bold buckle detail that brings a contemporary twist to its classic silhouette. With its clean lines and minimalist design, this bag is made for those who appreciate timeless accessories with a modern edge. With its revival as part of the SS25 collection, the Sac Maximors represents a blend of craftsmanship and innovation, offering a refreshing take on luxury accessories for the new season. Merging tradition with a contemporary aesthetic, this small yet mighty design certainly made an impact on the runway.

Cabas Corricolo: A Nod to Equestrian Heritage

One of the most surprising (and fun) displays of Hermès’ equestrian roots came in the form of the Cabas Corricolo tote with rows of fringed horsehair. It’s a pretty roomy bag designed to slip over your shoulder but, aside from the bag’s practical appeal, it was an inventive exploration of the house’s heritage that didn’t go unnoticed.

And, of course, one of my favourite bags from the Hermès SS25 show was the one I carried myself. If there’s ever an event that calls for my new super-rare Birkin 30 Sellier Casaque in Sellier Rouge and Rouge Ash, it’s the Hermès Paris Fashion Week show.
