My favourite Polish designer has opened a boutique in New York, and I had the pleasure of hosting an evening there during NYFW.
I probably own more Magda Butrym pieces than I do from any other designer. Over the years, Magda and I have become friends, and she even created one of the dresses for my wedding. So when she opened her first New York boutique, this was never going to be just another store opening for me. I was proud to be there, even happier to host an evening in the space, and admittedly very tempted to leave with half the autumn/winter collection.
A Little About Magda Butrym
Magda is a Polish designer with such a recognisable point of view. She makes a woman look feminine and powerful at the same time, whether she is wearing one of those incredible dresses, a sharp blazer or a beautifully made coat. I love the little details that make a piece unmistakably hers: the roses, the crochet, the way a simple silhouette suddenly becomes anything but simple. Her work also draws on Polish craftsmanship, with hand-knitted, embroidered and leather details made in collaboration with artisans across the country.
And now all of that has a New York address: 170 Mercer Street in SoHo. The boutique opened during NYFW, and towards the end of the week I had the pleasure of hosting an evening there. Meeting so many of you, seeing friends and talking to people who love Magda’s work as much as I do made it even more special. I left feeling very happy for her – and with a considerably longer wish list.

Inside the Boutique
The boutique is modern and minimal, but it has so much warmth and character. The exposed brick, wooden floors and beautiful mirrors give it that New York charm, while the clothes have room to speak for themselves. Even the little displays of sunglasses, bags and a single rose feel very Magda.
I loved seeing the collection together in one space. There are dresses for practically every occasion, pieces with the knitted details I always fall for, and plenty of bags and sunglasses to distract me on the way out. Then there is the autumn/winter collection: coats, jackets, blazers and knitwear that made me want to start planning outfits for weather that has not even arrived yet. Honestly, I would have taken the entire rail home.

I have picked out a few favourites below, including the pieces I kept going back to in the boutique. If you are in New York, I would absolutely make time to visit – and perhaps go in with a little more self-control than I did.
