Where To Drink The Best Coffee And Matcha In Valencia

One thing I love about Spain is that every city has its own personality.

Most of you already know how much I love Barcelona. I have spent so much time there over the years, mostly for work, and it is still one of those cities I never get tired of coming back to. Valencia, however, has a completely different vibe. It feels a little slower, a little greener and much more relaxed. You have a beautiful historic centre, long sandy beaches, incredible food, plenty of shopping and one of the largest urban parks in Europe, all within easy reach. It is no surprise that so many people choose to visit throughout the year rather than just during the summer months.

As you can probably imagine, one of the first things I started saving while I was there was coffee shops. Whether I was looking for a great matcha, somewhere to answer a few emails, or simply a beautiful place to take a break after walking around the city, Valencia had no shortage of lovely cafés. So, if you are planning a trip soon, these are the ones I genuinely think are worth adding to your list.

1. Maison Matcha

Address: C/ de Bonaire, 25, Ciutat Vella, 46003 València
Best for: matcha lovers
What to order: signature matcha, iced matcha, pastries
Vibe: minimal, calm, beautifully designed
Good to know: small matcha shop inside selling ceremonial matcha and accessories

If there is one place I would recommend to every matcha lover visiting Valencia, it would probably be Maison Matcha. Originally launched in Paris, the concept has quickly become a favourite among people who appreciate high-quality matcha and beautifully designed spaces, and the Valencia location is no exception.

The café itself is fairly small, with just a handful of seats inside and outside, so I actually think it works perfectly as a takeaway stop while exploring the city. Their menu offers plenty of different matcha combinations, whether you prefer something classic or a little more creative, and everything is presented beautifully. They also have a lovely selection of pastries and cookies, plus a small retail corner where you can shop ceremonial matcha, bowls, whisks and other accessories if you want to recreate the experience at home.

2. PASAJE 94

Address: C/ dels Trinitaris, 13, Ciutat Vella, 46003 València
Best for: speciality coffee and art lovers
What to order: cortado or matcha latte
Vibe: creative, modern, inspiring
Good to know: rotating exhibitions by local artists and designers

PASAJE 94 is probably one of the most unique coffee spots I visited in Valencia because it is so much more than just a café. The space combines speciality coffee with a creative studio and exhibition concept, regularly showcasing work from local artists and designers. Every few weeks the space changes, meaning no two visits feel exactly the same.

If you enjoy discovering creative spaces while travelling, I genuinely think you will love this place. It is the perfect spot to slow down for half an hour, enjoy a really good coffee and spend some time looking around the current exhibition. The team are also incredibly friendly, which somehow makes the whole experience feel even more welcoming.

3. Fiveo Bar

Address: Pl. de Manuel Granero, 9, L'Eixample, 46006 València
Best for: remote work, slow mornings, brunch
What to order: coffee, cinnamon roll, croissant
Vibe: bright, relaxed, leafy
Good to know: beautiful garden, community table for work and great breakfast

Ruzafa is full of fantastic cafés, but Fiveo Bar quickly became one of my favourites. One thing I noticed quite quickly in Valencia is that not every coffee shop welcomes laptops. Some have dedicated working areas, while others prefer people to simply enjoy their coffee and move on. Fiveo Bar is one of the places where working for a while actually feels encouraged thanks to its large community table.

Beyond that, it is simply a lovely place to spend a morning. The interiors are beautiful, the garden is incredibly peaceful and it somehow manages to feel tucked away despite being in such a lively neighbourhood. If you visit, I would definitely recommend ordering one of their cinnamon rolls or freshly baked croissants alongside your coffee.

They also have a second concept called Fiveo Coffee, which is more of a coffee-to-go spot. If you are just passing by, it is perfect for grabbing a takeaway coffee, often served in transparent cans that look incredibly cool and have become something of a signature detail.

4. KOFU

Address: C/ de les Comèdies, 21, Bajo Derecha, Ciutat Vella, 46002 València
Best for: quick coffee breaks
What to order: speciality coffee, iced latte and homemade cookies
Vibe: cosy, retro, minimalist
Good to know: small café with limited seating

KOFU is one of those places that proves you do not need a huge space to create a memorable coffee experience. It is a small speciality coffee shop tucked away in the city centre, making it the perfect place to stop for a really good coffee before continuing your day.

The interiors have a lovely retro feel with clean, modern details, creating a space that feels both warm and effortlessly stylish. It is not somewhere I would necessarily spend hours working, but if you appreciate great coffee and enjoy discovering smaller independent cafés while travelling, this is definitely one to save. Their homemade cookies are also well worth trying alongside your coffee.

5. Federal Café

Address: C/ de l'Ambaixador Vich, 15, Ciutat Vella, 46002 València
Best for: remote work, brunch and long coffee breaks
What to order: matcha latte, cordato, carrot cake
Vibe: spacious, bright, welcoming
Good to know: hidden courtyard and large community tables

Federal is one of those cafés I could easily imagine coming back to again and again. It is much larger than most speciality coffee shops in Valencia, making it a great option whether you are meeting friends, catching up on work or simply looking for somewhere to escape the afternoon heat for a little while.

One of my favourite parts is the hidden courtyard at the back, which somehow feels surprisingly peaceful considering how central the location is. The team are incredibly friendly, there are plenty of community tables if you need to work for a while, and the atmosphere always feels relaxed rather than rushed. If you visit, I would definitely recommend trying the carrot cake together with your coffee.

5. Dulce de Leche Boutique

Address: Carrer de Sant Vicent Màrtir, 52, Ciutat Vella, 46002 València
Best for: coffee and cakes
What to order: carrot cake, New York cheesecake, cream-filled croissants
Vibe: cosy, lively, relaxed
Good to know: one of several Dulce de Leche locations across Valencia

If you love finishing your coffee with something sweet, Dulce de Leche should absolutely be on your list. They have several locations across Valencia, making it incredibly easy to stop by wherever you happen to be exploring.

Although the coffee is excellent, the real star here is the dessert counter. From carrot cake and buttery croissants to New York cheesecake, Oreo cheesecake and plenty of other homemade cakes, there is genuinely something for everyone. Everything is served by the slice, which also makes it very tempting to share a couple of different desserts if you cannot decide.

One of the things I enjoyed most about Valencia was that every café had its own personality. Some were perfect for sitting down with a laptop for an hour or two, others became my go-to spots for matcha or speciality coffee, while a few were simply places I wanted to return to because they felt so welcoming.
