Puente Romano Marbella Review

One thing I have realised over the years is that the hotels I end up recommending most are rarely the ones with the biggest suites or the fanciest bathrooms. They are the places that become part of the trip itself. The ones where breakfast somehow turns into coffee, coffee turns into a walk, and before you know it, half the day has disappeared. Those are always the places I want to go back to, and Puente Romano has very comfortably joined that list.

In June, I spent almost five days there celebrating my bachelorette with some of my closest friends. We stayed in one of the resort’s private villas, played tennis one afternoon, spent far too long over breakfast every morning and somehow never managed to make it to bed as early as we’d planned. It was one of those trips that you’ll probably still be talking about years later.

As much as those memories will always make this place incredibly special to me, I wanted this review to focus on the resort itself. Spending several days there gave me the chance to experience it properly, and I quickly understood why so many people return year after year.

Puente Romano doesn’t really feel like a hotel at all. It feels like a beautiful Mediterranean village where everything happens to be just a short walk away, from the beach and tennis club to some of Marbella’s best restaurants. I think that’s exactly what makes it so difficult to leave.

For this trip, we stayed in one of the resort’s private villas, Los Llanos, and I honestly couldn’t have imagined a better setup for a girls’ trip. Having our own garden and swimming pool made it feel much more like staying in a beautiful Mediterranean home than a hotel, while still giving us access to everything Puente Romano is known for. We’d start our mornings together over coffee by the pool before wandering down to breakfast, and by the evening we’d all somehow end up back there again, chatting long after dinner.

Los Llanos was perfect for our group, but it’s worth knowing that the resort offers several private villas and residences, each suited to different group sizes and styles of stay. Whether you’re planning a romantic escape, a family holiday or a celebration with friends, there are plenty of beautiful options to choose from.

Even though we had our own pool at the villa, we still found ourselves exploring the rest of the resort every day. That’s one of the things I loved most about Puente Romano. Each pool has its own atmosphere, surrounded by beautiful subtropical gardens that make it feel peaceful even during the height of summer. Some mornings we’d spend a couple of hours by the main pool before heading down to the beach, while on other days we’d do exactly the opposite. I loved never having to choose between a pool day and a beach day because everything is connected and only a short walk away.

Being located right on Marbella’s Golden Mile is another huge advantage. Whether you want to spend the afternoon by the sea, go for a walk along the promenade or stop for lunch overlooking the Mediterranean, it’s all incredibly easy. It gives the whole resort a lovely sense of freedom, where you can plan your day or simply make it up as you go along, which, if you ask me, is exactly what a summer holiday should feel like.

One thing you’ll never struggle with at Puente Romano is deciding where to eat. The resort is home to more than twenty restaurants and bars, and each one offers something completely different. Whether you’re in the mood for Japanese at Nobu, Peruvian flavours at COYA, Italian classics at Cipriani or a long Mediterranean lunch overlooking the sea, you’ll find it here. It’s one of the few resorts where the dining scene is genuinely part of the experience rather than simply another hotel restaurant.

If you’re visiting during the summer months, I would definitely recommend booking dinner reservations before you arrive. Some of the most popular restaurants fill up surprisingly quickly, especially at weekends, and it would be a shame to miss out if there’s somewhere you’ve been wanting to try.

Breakfast quickly became my favourite meal of the day. There was never any rush, so we’d usually order another coffee, chat for far longer than intended and slowly decide what we felt like doing. Some days that meant heading straight to the beach, while others started with a walk through the gardens before making our way back to the villa. It sounds incredibly simple, but that’s exactly what made the whole stay feel so relaxing.

Although we spent most of our time enjoying the sunshine, the wellness offering at Puente Romano is equally impressive. The Six Senses Spa is one of the highlights of the resort, with beautiful treatment rooms, a hydrotherapy circuit, sauna, steam room and a long list of treatments if you’re looking to properly unwind. Even if you’re not planning a spa day, it’s worth making time to experience it.

Beyond the spa, the resort also has an excellent gym, yoga classes and plenty of ways to stay active throughout your stay. I always appreciate hotels that make it easy to keep moving without making it feel like a chore.

One afternoon, we decided to book a tennis court, and it ended up being one of my favourite memories from the trip. Safe to say, none of us are about to play Wimbledon anytime soon, but it was such a fun way to spend a couple of hours before getting ready for dinner.

The Puente Romano Tennis Club is actually one of the most well-known tennis clubs in Europe, and alongside tennis you’ll also find padel courts, fitness facilities and plenty of activities both within the resort and along the beach. Whether you’re happiest spending the day by the pool or prefer to stay active while travelling, there’s more than enough to fill your days.

One thing I really appreciated about Puente Romano is that it doesn’t feel as though it was designed for just one type of traveller. We visited as a group of friends, but I could just as easily picture myself coming back for a long weekend with Filippo or, one day, as a family. The atmosphere changes throughout the day, which somehow makes the resort work equally well whether you’re looking for complete relaxation or a much livelier holiday.

If you enjoy good food, beautiful surroundings and the kind of holiday where you don’t have to think too much once you’ve arrived, I honestly don’t think you can go wrong. Everything is within easy reach, the service is genuinely excellent without ever feeling too formal, and there is enough happening around the resort that you can happily spend several days there without feeling the need to leave. For me, that’s probably the biggest compliment I can give any hotel.

Looking back, I think what I’ll remember most isn’t one particular dinner, one afternoon by the pool or even our tennis match. It’s how easy Puente Romano made everything feel. We settled into a routine almost immediately, and by the end of the trip it genuinely felt as though we’d been there much longer than five days.

Of course, this resort will always hold a special place in my heart because of the memories we made there, but even if I’d visited under completely different circumstances, I know I would have left feeling exactly the same. If you’re planning a trip to Marbella and looking for a hotel that offers far more than just a beautiful room, I genuinely think Puente Romano is one of the best choices you can make.
