The Hero Piece Of Summer...

If you asked me to name five pieces I wear the most every summer, shorts would absolutely make the list. Probably much higher than most people would expect. I wear them far more often than mini skirts because they’re comfortable, practical and incredibly easy to style. Whether I’m travelling, spending the day walking around a new city, heading out for breakfast, running errands or simply popping out for a coffee, they’re usually the first thing I reach for once the temperatures start climbing.

Over the years, I’ve realised that shorts don’t have to feel overly casual. At first glance, they might seem like something you only wear with a simple T-shirt on the way to the beach, but I honestly think they’re one of the most versatile pieces in a summer wardrobe. Choosing the right cut, the right fabric and the right accessories can completely change the way they look. These are the three styles I wear every single summer and the outfit formulas I come back to again and again.

The Shorts I Wear Every Summer

If there’s one piece that always ends up in my summer suitcase, it’s a good pair of shorts. I honestly wear them far more often than mini skirts because they’re comfortable, practical and work for so many different occasions. Classic denim shorts are probably the pair I reach for the most, especially when I’m travelling. I love wearing them with a simple tank top for breakfast, walking to the beach, exploring a new city or simply grabbing a coffee. They’re one of those pieces that never really go out of style and somehow work with almost everything already in my wardrobe.

When I want my outfit to feel a little more polished, I almost always switch to linen shorts. I especially love matching linen sets with coordinating tops or shirts because they instantly make the whole look feel more put together without trying too hard. I tend to keep the colour palette very simple here, usually white, beige or black, as those shades always feel timeless during summer.

And then there are Bermuda shorts, which have probably become one of my favourite discoveries over the last couple of summers. Whether they’re made from denim, linen or cotton, I always gravitate towards slightly oversized silhouettes. They feel modern, relaxed and offer a completely different vibe from classic shorts, making them one of the easiest ways to change up my summer wardrobe without stepping too far outside my comfort zone.

The Shoes I Always Wear With Shorts

When it comes to styling shorts, I honestly think the shoes make all the difference. Flat sandals are still my everyday favourite, especially with classic denim shorts, as they’re comfortable enough for long walks while keeping the outfit simple and effortless. If I’m wearing Bermuda shorts, I almost always reach for kitten heel flip flops, which have easily become one of my favourite shoe trends this summer. They instantly make the whole look feel more elevated without looking overdressed. And whenever I wear linen shorts, particularly as part of a matching set, I love finishing the outfit with ballet flats. They’re elegant, understated and give the whole look a slightly more polished feel, making them perfect for lunches, summer events or days when I want to look put together with very little effort.

Shorts will always be one of my summer staples. They’re comfortable, easy to style and somehow always find their way into my suitcase, no matter where I’m travelling. One thing I’ve learnt over the years is that I almost always prefer them slightly oversized rather than fitted. I usually size up because I love a more relaxed silhouette, and I think it instantly makes the whole outfit feel more effortless. Sometimes, the smallest styling choices really do make the biggest difference.
