The mini dresses I keep coming back to every summer
Dresses are easily one of the things I wear most during summer. Long dresses, midi dresses, mini dresses… honestly, all of them have their place depending on where I am going and what the plan is.
That said, mini dresses definitely get the most wear this time of year.The formula is very simple. Throw on a dress, add sandals or heels, and I am ready to leave the house. Which, if I am being completely honest, is exactly the kind of dressing I appreciate during summer. I love fashion, but I also appreciate pieces that make getting dressed feel effortless. A good mini dress manages to do both. It is one piece, takes up almost no space in a suitcase, works from breakfast through to dinner and somehow always looks like you put more thought into your outfit than you actually did.
And I am very much in favour of that.
I am fully aware that this sounds like a love letter to mini dresses, and perhaps it is. One relatively small piece of fabric can somehow make you feel polished, feminine and appropriately dressed for almost any summer plan. Needless to say, I am a fan.
What I have realised over the years is that the mini dresses I am drawn to are rarely the very tight or overly revealing ones. If a dress is short, I almost always prefer it to be slightly relaxed everywhere else. A beautiful cotton dress worn with flat leather sandals. Linen on holiday. Silk for dinner. Something that feels effortless to wear rather than something I spend the entire evening adjusting every time I stand up. For me, the best mini dresses are all about balance. A shorter hemline paired with a softer silhouette. Great fabric. Beautiful proportions. The kind of dress that feels feminine and elegant without trying too hard.

When it comes to luxury mini dresses, I have realised that I am rarely searching for trends. More often, I am looking for a certain feeling. The dresses I save year after year tend to share the same qualities: beautiful fabrics, thoughtful proportions and silhouettes that feel elegant rather than overly complicated. Brands such as Khaite, Magda Butrym and Saint Laurent do this exceptionally well, each in their own way. Some lean more minimalist, others more feminine or dramatic, but they all understand the importance of balance. During summer, I find myself gravitating towards crisp cotton, airy linen and silk that moves beautifully as you walk. I also love brands such as Faithfull and Aya Muse for exactly this reason. Their dresses feel effortless without looking casual, and they strike that perfect middle ground between relaxed holiday dressing and pieces that still feel polished enough for dinner.

The High Street Brands That Get It Right
One of the things I love most about summer dressing is that great style becomes much less dependent on price. In many ways, fabric, fit and silhouette matter far more than a logo. Some of my favourite high street mini dresses have come from COS, DISSH, Zara and Massimo Dutti. COS consistently delivers clean, modern silhouettes that feel far more expensive than they are, while DISSH has become one of my favourite discoveries for elevated summer pieces. Zara always surprises me with a handful of standout dresses every season, particularly when it comes to simple cotton styles and easy holiday pieces, while Massimo Dutti excels at those relaxed, understated dresses that work beautifully with flat sandals and a woven bag. When I am shopping on the high street, I am almost always looking for the same things I look for in luxury brands: natural fabrics, a slightly relaxed fit and shapes that feel timeless enough to wear for many summers to come.
