I have stayed in some truly beautiful hotels over the years, but Hôtel du Cap-Eden-Roc remains one of my favourite places in the world. In fact, if I had to make a list, it would comfortably sit in my top three. There is something about this hotel that is difficult to explain until you experience it for yourself. The moment I arrive, I instantly slow down. My phone becomes less important, my schedule disappears and suddenly my days revolve around long lunches, swims in the sea, sunset tennis matches and deciding which dress to wear for dinner.
For me, this is the definition of a perfect summer holiday. And if there is one thing I know, it is that whenever I spend time here, I leave feeling rested, inspired and already planning my return.
A Hotel That Was Never Supposed To Be A Hotel
One of the things I love most about Hôtel du Cap-Eden-Roc is its history.
Long before it became one of the world’s most celebrated hotels, the property was originally built in 1869 as Villa Soleil, a private retreat designed for writers seeking inspiration and tranquillity away from the city. It is easy to understand why they chose this particular corner of Cap d’Antibes. Even today, the atmosphere feels remarkably peaceful.
The hotel is surrounded by pine trees, Mediterranean gardens and endless greenery. You hear the birds, the sea and the gentle sound of crickets throughout the day. Despite being one of the most famous hotels in the world, it rarely feels crowded. There is a sense of calm here that is becoming increasingly difficult to find.
The Rooms, Suites And Villas
Hôtel du Cap-Eden-Roc offers a collection of rooms, suites and private villas spread across several buildings, including the historic Villa Soleil and the Eden-Roc Pavilion. The interiors feel timeless rather than trendy. Think elegant French Riviera glamour, soft colours, beautiful terraces and many rooms with stunning sea views.
While some luxury hotels focus on being ultra-modern, Hôtel du Cap has always felt more classic to me. It is sophisticated without trying too hard, which is perhaps why it continues to attract everyone from artists and writers to Hollywood stars and fashion insiders.

The Famous Pool And Sea Access
If you have ever seen photographs of Hôtel du Cap-Eden-Roc, chances are you have already seen its legendary saltwater infinity pool, carved directly into the rocks overlooking the Mediterranean. It is easily one of the most beautiful pools in all of Europe and has become one of the hotel’s most recognisable features.
What I particularly love is that the hotel offers both poolside relaxation and direct access to the sea. You can spend the morning swimming in the Mediterranean, enjoy lunch overlooking the water and then return to your sunbed for the rest of the afternoon. The private cabanas are another highlight and make it incredibly easy to spend an entire day without ever leaving the hotel grounds. Which, honestly, is exactly what I usually want to do.
The Restaurants: Are They Worth It?
Absolutely.
One of the biggest advantages of staying at Hôtel du Cap-Eden-Roc is that you never feel the need to leave for dinner. The hotel offers several excellent restaurants, including the Michelin-starred Louroc, the iconic Eden-Roc Restaurant and The Grill.
My personal favourite, however, is Giovanni’s. Perhaps this comes as no surprise considering how much I love Italian food. One of my favourite moments of the day is getting ready for dinner after hours spent by the pool, putting on a beautiful dress over sun-kissed skin and enjoying pizza, pasta and all the Italian dishes I never seem to get tired of.
For me, that is the essence of a perfect summer holiday: good food, warm evenings and the simple luxury of having nowhere else to be.
Can You Visit Hôtel du Cap-Eden-Roc Without Staying There?
Yes, and I think you absolutely should.
Certain restaurants, particularly Eden-Roc Restaurant for lunch, welcome non-resident guests with advance reservations. If staying at the hotel is not currently within your budget, booking lunch is one of the best ways to experience the atmosphere, the breathtaking views and a little of the magic that makes this place so special.
Tennis, Fitness And Activities
One thing that often surprises people is how much there is to do here.
The hotel offers fitness facilities, wellness experiences and several clay tennis courts. In fact, I would say this is where I truly fell in love with tennis. We usually book a court either early in the morning or around sunset and it has become one of my favourite rituals during our stay. It is such a lovely activity to share with a partner and even more fun if you have friends with you and can organise a doubles match.
Although I should probably warn you that it can become slightly competitive.
Dior Spa Eden-Roc
No review of Hôtel du Cap-Eden-Roc would be complete without mentioning the Dior Spa. And yes, I have tested it. More than once.
The treatments are exceptional, the setting is beautiful and there is something incredibly relaxing about spending a few hours completely switching off while being surrounded by some of the most stunning views on the French Riviera.
The spa offers a range of face and body treatments using Dior products, alongside wellness programmes designed to help guests fully unwind. For me, it has become part of the Hôtel du Cap experience and one of the reasons I always look forward to returning.

Is Hôtel du Cap-Eden-Roc Worth The Hype?
In my opinion, absolutely.
What makes Hôtel du Cap-Eden-Roc special is not any single restaurant, suite or amenity. It is the way everything comes together to create an experience that feels effortless. Nothing feels rushed, forced or overly designed. Instead, there is a sense of ease that is increasingly rare to find, even among the world’s best hotels.
What I appreciate most is that the hotel remains true to itself. While luxury travel trends come and go, Hôtel du Cap-Eden-Roc has never felt the need to reinvent its identity. It knows exactly what it is, and it does it exceptionally well.
Every time I leave, I miss the sound of the crickets, the scent of the pine trees, the morning walks through the gardens and those long summer evenings that somehow always feel a little bit magical. Few places have that effect on me, but Hôtel du Cap-Eden-Roc always does. And that, more than anything else, is why I keep coming back.
