Prada Summer, Are You Ready?

In fact, I recently realised that some of the pieces I spend the most time searching for every summer are actually the pieces I wear the least throughout the year.

A beach bag might only come out on holiday. A swimsuit spends most of its life folded in a drawer. A straw hat is hardly something I reach for in my everyday life. And yet, every single summer, I become completely obsessed with all three.

I will spend hours looking at raffia bags, convincing myself that this year’s beach bag is somehow different from last year’s beach bag. I will save swimsuits despite already owning more than enough. And I will inevitably find myself looking at hats, even though I know I am going to spend half the holiday carrying it instead of wearing it.

Which brings me to Prada.

One thing Prada seems to do exceptionally well every year is summer. Not necessarily because the pieces are revolutionary, but because they understand exactly what people want to wear on holiday. Beautiful raffia bags, chic swimwear, oversized hats, great sunglasses and those little summer luxuries that instantly make you want to book a flight to Italy. I recently found myself browsing their latest collection and, unsurprisingly, saving far more pieces than I had intended to. So today I thought I would share a few of my favourites.

The Swimwear I Would Pack Immediately

I have always believed that a great swimsuit deserves as much consideration as a great dress. During summer, it often becomes the foundation of an entire outfit. Add a linen shirt, a pair of sandals and some jewellery, and suddenly you are ready for lunch, a boat day or an afternoon by the sea. Prada’s swimwear always feels elegant rather than overly sporty, which is exactly what I tend to gravitate towards.

The Hats & Scarves That Make Me Want To Book A Holiday

If there is one category that immediately puts me in a summer mood, it is hats and scarves. You know, a beautiful straw hat or a silk scarf tied around a ponytail, wrapped around a handbag or even worn as a top. The kind of pieces that instantly make me think of Italy. Prada always gets these details right. They may seem small, but somehow they end up appearing in half the photos from every trip.

Summer Bags

No Prada summer collection would be complete without great bags. Raffia bags, straw totes, oversized beach bags… this is usually where I get into trouble. Every summer I convince myself that I have enough, and every summer I find another one I suddenly cannot stop thinking about. Prada always seems to get that balance right between practical and beautiful, which is probably why their summer bags are the pieces I end up saving first.

Dresses

Summer dresses deserve a category of their own. Much like swimsuits, they are one of those things I can never resist looking at this time of year. Prada has some beautiful styles this season, from effortless daytime pieces to dresses that would work perfectly for dinner on holiday. Easy, elegant and the kind of pieces that do not require much styling. Just add a pair of sandals, a great bag and perhaps a few accessories, and you are ready to go.

You know that feeling when your outfit is technically finished, but something still feels missing? For me, that final step is usually a pair of sunglasses, a watch or a piece of jewellery. They may seem like small details, but they are often the things that make an outfit feel complete. Prada’s summer accessories strike that perfect balance between statement and timelessness, which is probably why I keep coming back to them year after year.
