Not everything, just the pieces that stayed with me...

Every time I walk into Prada lately, I find myself doing the same thing. Trying on every hat, every pair of sunglasses. Checking out even the ones that look almost shy and then refusing to leave them. It is a particular Prada move, and I am a willing participant (I also think about the famous quote “You speak Prada?”, of course). Below: the spring pieces that followed me out of the boutique in my head.

The Bags That Go With Everything

Prada bags this season feel like they have been edited by someone with self-control. Nothing is overdone. Every piece has exactly enough character to lift an outfit you would otherwise have called “fine.” I came to see the Route bag which I have in beautiful forest green (just to find out it fully sold out everywhere), and tried on a lighter more summer appropriate colour.

I love Route, Not because of anything, but because it makes sense. It works with tailoring, with denim, with the dress you have worn ten times. It does not demand a styling sit-down. You pick one up. You leave the house. The outfit follows. Truthfully I couldnt plan falling in love with another bag, this gorgeous straw, basket like bag, perfect for my Monte Carlo Beach Club days.

Shoes I’d Wear on Repeat

Prada is, for my money, the strongest shoe house at this exact cultural moment. Clean lines. Wearable shapes. Pieces that look like they were designed for the actual human foot rather than its theoretical cousin. And I feel I can say that as my both mum and dad would agree.

Loafers. Simple flats. Architectural-but-not-aggressive silhouettes. Easy without being basic. Polished without being precious. The kind of shoe you put on at 9am and forget about until you take it off at midnight(my dad doesnt forget, he keeps talking about them) which is, when you think about it, the only test of a shoe that has ever really mattered.

Light Layers & Softer Pieces That Make Sense for Spring

Spring is the season fashion is worst at, because it asks the wardrobe to do two contradictory things at the same time. Prada is one of the few houses that solves this without sulking about it.

Lightweight jackets. Soft tailoring. Easy shirts. Dresses you can pull on without a strategy meeting. Structured enough to hold the silhouette together, relaxed enough to actually move with you through the day.

I keep gravitating to the softer end of the rail this season whites, creams, butter neutrals, the kind of palette that makes everything around it look better rested. There are florals too, and more playful pieces, but Prada-playful is its own dialect. Even the prettiest item in the room is doing something restrained underneath

These are the pieces that work from morning to evening, across moods, across plans, across the day going slightly sideways at four o’clock.

What Makes a Staple (For Me)

A staple isn’t basic. A staple is a piece you do not have to think about across outfits, across moods, across the kind of week in which you cannot make one more decision. That is exactly what I kept circling back to in store. Pieces that feel easy and considered at the same time. If you want a cute Prada souvenir you will not get bored of – ever, choose a nice little hat. I have about a dozen of them, and never regretted any.
