From cotton and trench styles to easy everyday jackets you can wear on repeat

Spring always feels like a bit of a guessing game. It looks warm, it starts warm… and then halfway through the day you realise you needed one more layer. Over time, I’ve stopped trying to predict it and just made sure I always have a light jacket with me.

Not the heavy kind. Not leather, not wool. Just those easy, breathable pieces that you can throw on without thinking – the ones that work in the morning, come off by midday, and still make sense draped over your shoulders or folded into your bag.

I find myself reaching for cotton jackets most often. There’s something about that slightly structured, clean feel that instantly makes an outfit look more put together, without trying too hard. I’ll wear them with jeans, simple trousers, or even over a dress, and they always just work.

Then there are the more relaxed canvas and utility styles, which I love for everyday moments. They feel effortless, slightly undone in the best way, and perfect for days when you’re moving around a lot. A light trench is another piece I come back to every single spring – probably the easiest way to look polished with minimal effort. It’s one of those layers that pulls everything together, even when the outfit underneath is very simple.

On busier days, especially when I’m travelling, I tend to reach for lighter nylon or technical jackets. They’re practical, easy to pack, and surprisingly chic when styled simply. And then there are those very light, almost sheer layers that don’t really add warmth, but make the outfit feel complete – the kind of pieces you’re grateful to have when the weather keeps changing.

What I Look For in a Spring Jacket

For me, it always comes down to ease. It needs to feel light, effortless and easy to carry throughout the day. I tend to gravitate towards clean silhouettes and neutral tones, because I know I’ll wear them on repeat. The best ones are the jackets that don’t require much thought – you throw them on in the morning, and they just fit into whatever you’re wearing.

Back to what I’ve been seeing lately – there are so many beautiful options this season. Toteme and The Row are always my go-to when it comes to light spring jackets. They do this category incredibly well – minimal, perfectly cut, and the kind of pieces you end up wearing over and over again.

At the same time, I’ve noticed some really strong pieces from Prada, Miu Miu and Magda Butrym, especially if you’re looking for something that has a bit more personality while still staying wearable.

And of course, there are also some great high street options right now. Massimo Dutti, Reformation and H&M all have pieces that feel very considered – light, easy to style, and perfect for everyday spring dressing.
