Smart Packing Tips for Stress-Free Travel
I’m not sure I’m qualified to give packing advice — although, considering how much I fly, I’ve probably earned an honorary degree in hand luggage by now. Still, take this as a light-hearted guide from someone who’s learned the basics the hard way.
Whether I’m checking in a big suitcase or travelling light, my hand luggage essentials barely change — and here’s why. I always pack with one scenario in mind: what if my suitcase doesn’t make it to the destination when I do? It doesn’t happen often, but those occasions teach you quickly. So I make sure my carry-on has everything I need to survive the first 48 hours without stress.
On the other hand, there’s nothing I love more than travelling light. When I’m away just for a few days, a small carry-on and a personal bag are more than enough. And yes, it’s infinitely easier than dragging around one — or sometimes two, even three — 30-kg suitcases, but that’s a story for another time. Let’s focus on smart, efficient hand luggage packing.
What I pack in my
carry-on suitcase
When it comes to my carry-on, I treat it as a safety net — a small capsule of essentials that keeps me comfortable for the first day or two of a trip, even if my checked suitcase decides to take the scenic route. I keep all my chargers together in a pouch, and my jewellery always stays with me. Fresh underwear, socks, a white T-shirt, and a full spare outfit — usually jeans and a cosy knit — are always packed, along with pyjamas. My beauty bag and hair brush are within easy reach, and of course, my Noa supplements travel with me everywhere. This way, whether I’m on a long layover or just arriving at the hotel, I can quickly unpack the basics and feel ready to start the day without any stress.

What I keep in my personal bag
My personal bag is the place for everything I want within arm’s reach. I like to keep a small hygiene pouch inside — mini deodorant, sanitising spray, tissues — just the basics that make travelling a little easier. For makeup, I bring only what I truly use mid-journey: a touch of blush, concealer and a hydrating lip balm. My hand cream never leaves my side, especially on long-haul flights where the cabin air can be unforgiving.
I carry my laptop, phone and headphones in an easy-access section of the bag, so I can work, edit or simply relax whenever I want. These are the little things that keep me comfortable and organised throughout the journey — and make the whole travelling experience feel more seamless and calm.

A few smart packing habits I swear by
Over the years, I’ve realised that packing well has very little to do with how much you take — and everything to do with how intentionally you organise it. Grouping items together in small pouches keeps things tidy and easy to find, especially when you’re searching for something mid-flight. Rolling softer pieces helps maximise space, while delicate items stay neatly folded on top. I also try to pack in light, neutral tones so that even my “spare outfit” can work for different situations. And finally, I keep anything important — documents, hygiene essentials, laptop, headphones, charger – in the most accessible pockets of my personal bag, so I never have to unpack half my life at security.
