The Miu Miu Wander Bag Is Better Than Ever

The-Miu-Miu-Wander-Bag-Review

Oh, the Wander of it all …

Miu Miu struck contemporary ‘It’ bag gold when it released the Wander bag back in Autumn/Winter 2022. Combining an on-trend croissant shape with Miu Miu’s distinctive Matelassé quilting technique and fashion-norm-defying spirit, the Wander instantly stood out amongst the sea of bags that were popular during the time. The Matelassé quilting made it noticeably less minimalist than many other croissant bags topping wishlists back then. And so, a handbag icon was born. But this isn’t where the Miu Miu Wander’s story ends.

It’s no secret that the Miu Miu Wander had all the makings of a street style accessory icon (it pretty much instantly became a celebrity favourite after its release). But in the years since its launch, the Miu Miu Wander has proved itself to be quite the contemporary classic. And what does every contemporary classic bag deserve? A deep dive review from yours truly. I’m going to take you through all of the design features and the new sizes, materials and colours I’m loving. Plus, scroll on for the ultimate Miu Miu Wander bag lookbook.

Design Prowess & Lasting Popularity

The Matelassé effect is a heritage favourite from the brand and the croissant shape has become that perfect balance between trendy and classic. So it’s no surprise that the two have combined to create an impressive addition to Miu Miu’s roster of bag icons. In today’s luxury climate of trend cycles and brands constantly vying for the next handbag hit, creating a bag with true staying power is pretty much akin to fairy dust. This makes the continued cult appeal of Miu Miu’s Wander bag all the more impressive.

The Wander has managed to escape falling into the trap of being simply another trend bag with popularity that fades almost as soon as it enters onto the luxury bag scene. I think a huge part of this is to do with Miu Miu’s reinventions of the bag each season in new materials and colours. We’ve seen everything from chilly-weather-approved shearling Wander bags to metallic options and micro variations that you can wear as bag charms (eek)

Sizing Up A Classic

I thought we’d start with the largest size of the bunch since this is the latest Wander addition to my Miu Miu collection and it’s my new favourite. The biggest size is called extra-large but I think that this name is misleading since it’s more of a medium-sized everyday bag. It can fit an iPad and some laptops but I don’t envision it as a supersized work or travel bag as the extra-large name suggests. Instead, I’ve found it to be the absolute ideal everyday bag for busy city excursions plus plenty more.

I’ve got mine in olive green suede – this option is fresh off the Spring/Summer 2025 runway so it’s new this season. Suede has most definitely proved itself to be more than just an autumn/winter material and I’ve been loving utilising it as part of my spring wardrobe so far. The olive green colour is more akin to a coffee shade which makes it so easy to style with other dreamy neutrals and my favourite Miu Miu sneakers. The Wander has always been a pretty casual bag but I think that this larger size, with its relaxed hobo silhouette, feels even more so.

Compact & Colourful

And now let’s turn our attention to all things bright. The new colours that pop up each season as part of Miu Miu’s ever-expanding cohort of Wander bags are true gems. Brightly hued suede is a big theme this season. One of my favourites (and undeniably the most eye-catching) is the fuchsia suede option. This bright pop of pink feels super playful and it suits the textured Matelassé finish so well. There’s also ivy green which looks like a fruity lime colour and whiskey which is a rich mustard yellow that creates a statement look.

Now for the pastels. The concept of pastels for spring isn’t exactly revolutionary but Miu Miu’s offering of these pretty shades is SO appealing. Miu Miu has managed to strike the balance between trendy colours and timeless appeal perfectly which is notoriously a tricky feat when it comes to releasing new shades of popular bags. Standouts include soy green (it’s like a soft butter yellow shade so you guys can understand how I’ve easily become obsessed), powder blue, and alabaster pink that’s available in the mini. A pink mini bag would actually be a great addition to my collection, right?!?

The luxurious satin options have also peaked my interest. They’ve definitely got more of a novelty appeal than my spacious coffee-hued suede Wander bag. But the good news is that when a brand releases styles of the same bag that are so different, you don’t feel guilty about buying multiples of the same style because they have such disparate purposes. The orchard pink and lake blue colours in particular feel very balletcore-coded (and pinterest-board-worthy for sure). The micro Wander bags are another novelty gem! Practical – no. But very coveted and I can see why. I’m still just as into the bag charm trend as ever and these teeny Wander bags make great decoration for larger styles (and they’re perfect for holding your AirPods, hair ties etc)

So to conclude. This new cohort of Wander bags makes me proud to be a Miu Miu girl. It feels like there’s a little bit of something for every occasion. If I could make a couple of wishes for next season, I would love to see some more colourful shades available in the larger size, and I’d love the option of an even bigger Wander bag – so in this case an extra extra-large. Oh to be a Miu Miu girl …
