My Guide To Spring/Summer Office Dressing

My-Guide-To- Spring-Summer-Office-Dressing

Your warm weather workwear wardrobe unlocked

Social media can make the warmer months look like a constant state of jetting between tropical locales, beach day outfits and embracing the art of a Euro summer. But the reality is that the spring and summer seasons still call for office appropriate attire and clothes that master business casual chic. The answer? I’ve curated a roundup of the best styles for your workwear wardrobe. And the best part is that so many of these pieces can double, triple … and even quadruple up effortlessly to work for dinner and drinks, coffee dates, plus lots more. Essentially, these picks are ready and willing to work overtime for your wardrobe.

From the winning oversized blazer and maxi skirt combo to masterfully simple linen suits and loafers that will make a long walk as part of your commute not feel like a chore. These finds can tackle the transitional dressing woes of spring and the difficulty of styling summer in the city. Let’s unpack my selection.

Suit Up In Linen

We all know that contemporary tailoring is among the best types of clothing we can spend our money on. But sometimes we forget that linen suits are just as worthy of an investment as their wool and cotton counterparts. Great for those surprisingly warm spring days and even better when summer is in full swing. It’s no surprise that Loro Piana and Brunello Cucinelli are my top choices, especially when the blazers are double-breasted – I feel this has such a premium, classic look. Polo Ralph Lauren is another great choice – I love these simple straight-leg trousers in white either paired with the matching blazer or a blue shirt with the sleeves rolled up.

Zimmermann is having a little fun this season embracing the colour of the moment, butter yellow (and if you’ve seen my recent Barcelona outfits, you know I am too). I tend to stick with lighter neutral and near-neutral shades when it comes to linen suiting, but I’m also partial to darker beige and chocolate brown options, too. I also like to invest in a matching linen waistcoat so I can wear the complete look, plus it gives me the option of taking off the blazer if it gets too hot and still looking smart.

Waistcoat Wonder

Waistcoats were one of those trends that I was beginning to get a little tired of. The ‘90s-inspired style has dominated spring and summer office dressing over the last couple of years, so I wasn’t sure that in 2025, I would still be eager to invest. But the selection from brands (both high-end and high-street) has me impressed (and ready to part with my money). Waistcoats very much feel like an ode to corporate chic, and this season brands are reinterpreting this classic workwear staple. Oversized, V-neck, crewneck, cropped, wrap-tie – there’s lots of new options, plus more classic picks, too. I’m particularly loving the lightweight knitted options (especially those made from pure cashmere)

Better With A Blazer

What workwear look isn’t better with a blazer, right? For spring and summer, I like to rely on my winning favourites – think classic picks from The Row and Max Mara. It’s also the perfect opportunity to incorporate a little colour. Pastel hues especially are a fun addition, I like light blues and blossom pinks the best. I’m also firmly behind the burgundy for spring trend, and a burgundy blazer is one of those seasonless pieces that’s a fail-safe investment. Belted options are also a good pick if you want something that’s classic but a bit different, they feel a little edgier and suit slouchier silhouettes the best.

Make It Midi/Maxi

A long skirt is to spring/summer office dressing what a winter coat is to chilly weather – it’s essential. A midi, a maxi, or a combination of the two – a midaxi (falling somewhere between midi and maxi length) – whatever you go with, a longer style skirt is perhaps the most versatile addition to your workwear wardrobe that you’ll ever buy. Pencil skirts were a key trend from the SS25 runways and I for one am loving embracing the practicality of this classic softly tapered silhouette this season (The Frankie Shop has some great options)

And other trends lent from the runways, like utility dressing, have also seeped into my selection of favourites. Maxi utility skirts that are so comfortable yet still perfectly chic with an oversized blazer and tote. Flowier midi and maxi styles work also. I think these look best worn with an oversized blazer to give them a smarter, more office-appropriate feel.

The Lowdown On Loafers

If we all had to pick just one pair of shoes to wear to the office – there would likely be a sea of loafers heading our way. But with this established, the question still remains – what are the best loafers to invest in? Quality and comfort are key (of course), but so is wearability. If the colour is a little too out-there or the material is trend-driven or just not something you’ll want to reach for regularly then you’re fated to waste your money. I like to keep things classic – but that doesn’t mean boring.

Polished leather or suede adds a different texture, great if you want to stray a little from simple leather. A classic penny loafer style is a good choice if you want a super traditional option to finish your workwear looks. But if I had to pick a favourite, it would have to be a design with ruching along the toe – Saint Laurent and The Row do some of the best.
