So many things to consider before the big day
Vows are being proclaimed, rings exchanged, and there’s plenty of dancing – because wedding season is well and truly underway. While I’ve covered the hotly requested topic of what to wear to a wedding as a guest, it’s suddenly dawned on me that there are so many other aspects of wedding season necessities for guests that don’t get spoken about enough. Most notably, the beauty essentials that I routinely rely on as a wedding guest to make sure I look (and feel) my best for the big days of those I love dearly.
This roundup of must-haves is less about makeup (although there are some of my most-worn products thrown in), and instead focuses on beauty finds that I add to my existing routine to give myself some extra care during this busy (and magical) season of love. Expect everything from my new go-to mascara and hero crowned lip tint, to under eye patches I use during the pre-event pamper and body shimmer oil that gives me a destination wedding worthy glow.
Skincare & Face
Because we all know that they’re the basis of any good look – before the perfect lip, sparkly heels or a floral-appliqué gown. It’s so important not to forget about your SPF, especially for destination weddings somewhere hot. Whether in the more traditional form of a cream (the beauty buff Holy Grail La Roche-Posay option and Diorsnow UV Shield are some of my favourites) or a spray version. These can get a bad rep but a spray option can actually prove a lifesaver for touch-ups throughout the big day – Naked Sundays does a great one with hyaluronic acid and watermelon extract.
Also on my list are under eye patches that I wear when getting ready – this is a great way to get a little pamper session in before getting lost in the full-on schedule that most weddings involve. A sheet mask is another good idea for some pre-event relaxation, and it’s useful that you can do one of these on the plane en route to an abroad wedding (trust me, a great timesaver). To give me a nice glow and shimmer, I like Rare Beauty’s Silky Touch highlighter and Warm Wishes bronzer stick. And we can’t forget about including setting sprays. Keeping your skin hydrated is key so Charlotte Tilbury’s Airbrush Flawless option with aloe vera and Japanese green tie is a smart choice.

Eyes
It’s always a good idea to have eyes that pop and lashes that flutter. And this is especially true for weddings. I want my eyes to beam with pride and happiness as my nearest and dearest are exchanging vows so I like to rely on a bit more than just my go-to everyday mascara. So false lashes are the way to go. I get how they can seem daunting at first but for a bold lash look on the big day they’re worth it. The new Diorshow Overvolume mascara is a great finish to a false lash look, and honestly it’s SO GOOD for giving lashes volume that it will give your natural ones a serious lift even if falsies aren’t your thing.
Lips
Lips can often feel like the most romantic part of any makeup look so when wedding season rolls around, I like to make sure that mine are in the best condition. This means my trusty go-to tints. By now you guys surely know that this means Wonderskin’s lip stain (it’s cult-worthy for a reason) and their Lip Rehab serum oil is also another must – it’s amazing at banishing cracks and dryness. Plus, masks and balms are also a key part of the prep work for getting my lips to look plump, soft, and ready for liners, lipsticks and glosses.

Hair
When it comes to my hair during wedding season, there are lots of things to consider. If I’m travelling to a hot country for the event, I like to rely on sea salt and texture sprays for that effortless, undone beachy look (this is always a great style to pair with colourful maxis). Because wedding season generally falls around the hottest time of the year in a lot of countries, I also like to focus on super-hydrating products like leave-in conditioners and hair masks (K18 does a great one). And, of course, where would any of us be without the hair basics like hairspray (likely among the first beauty products we all came across growing up). Color Wow is a great pick for this undisputed essential. It goes without saying but my trusty Kérastase Elixir Ultime hair oil is another must-have for my hair during wedding season.
Body
And lastly onto body products. A huge part of wedding season is about getting all dressed up and the kinds of dresses and ensembles that I’m planning on wearing this year tend to involve me showing a little skin. So body shimmer oil is a good idea (especially for hot locales). Tom Ford’s Soleil Blanc option is a luxurious choice and having a wedding to attend is the perfect excuse to indulge. Also, less glamorous but in my opinion no less important, a good foot mask is a wise pick since weddings involve so much dancing (plus, if you’re travelling to a couple of destination weddings this season then a foot mask is most definitely a necessity).
