These Are The 7 Trends I’m Excited About For 2025

New year, new fashion forecast

Speculating which trends are set to enchant the fashion world is one of my favourite pastimes to indulge in at the start of each new year. In 2024, we had colour phenomenons like Brat green, burgundy and chocolate brown. There was a continued devotion to “quiet luxury”, plus bolder aesthetics like leopard print, a cool-girl-approved revival of boho chic and further branching out in the art of sheer dressing. And there was, of course, the trends that shocked us all – including jelly shoes and an abundance of many … many bag charms.

For 2025, things are looking just as entrancing. After watching all of the Spring/Summer 2025 runway shows, devouring pinterest trend boards and having an eager eye on all the best street style, I’ve made my trend predictions for the upcoming year. And I’m eager to share my latest fashion forecast with you all. From masterful utility dressing and business chic to big bag love, pastels hues and a continued devotion to chocolate brown and suede accessories. And with fresh twists on beloved retro influences that I bet we’re all going to love. Here are the seven trends to know (and shop) for the year ahead …

Utility Dressing

This one’s an oldie but a goldie. The concept of utility dressing is of course not new but it’s set to be given a refresh for 2025. The Burberry and 16Arlington SS25 runways saw classic utility-esque silhouettes made more cool with cut-out details, low-buttoned fastenings and exposed bralettes. Plus, there were plenty of traditional military features like buckles, shoulder straps and storm flaps to give simple silhouettes a bold finish. I’m betting that in 2025 we see more of these subtle nods to utility style with contemporary edge.

Pencil Skirts

This is for sure one of the trends I’m most excited about for 2025. Channelling this year’s office siren styling phenomenon with an extra dose of corporate chic and practicality thrown in for good measure, pencil skirts are set to be one of the most reached-for items in our wardrobes very soon. I, of course, love the classic black jersey or crepe options that feel tailored made for the office, but switching up materials will be a fun way to wear this trend come next year. Think suede as we all grapple with the continued chilly months, and denim when it’s finally time for transitional dressing come spring.

Pretty Pastels

Colour has been perhaps one of the most hotly discussed (and worn) trends of 2024. Fashion’s show of love for shades like oxblood/burgundy and chocolate brown has been nothing short of inspiring. But next year, it looks like our shade game is getting a little more light and playful. Pretty pastel hues were everywhere on the runway at the recent SS25 Fashion Weeks. From classic tweed numbers and leather accessories in sherbet shades at Chanel, to fuzzy pom dresses, tailored trench coats and floaty blouses in a mix of buttermilk yellow, mint green, and icy blue at Stella McCartney and Chloé. I love this trend because it only takes one small item to pull it off, like a simple mini bag or pair of flats.

Masculine Suiting

Playing with the concept of gender when dressing is a long practised styling hack. Who says we can’t lean into an ultra-feminine aesthetic with floaty hemlines and bow accessories one day and opt for a masculine oversized suit the next? Bella Hadid wowed with this concept on the Saint Laurent SS25 runway, so I’m following suit (literally). I’m excited for more boxy tailored blazers that are so incredibly versatile and worth my money.

Structured Big Bags

You guys know I love a spacious handbag. This year, slouchy oversized options like The Row’s Margaux tote and the Bottega Veneta Hop have proved some of my favourite go-to bags. But next year, it’s all about adding a little more structure to our assortment of supersized accessories. I’m betting on the Ferragamo Hug, Bottega Veneta Andiamo and larger versions of the Birkin to be amongst the top contenders for big bag supremacy.

Even More Chocolate Brown

Didn’t we do this one already (I know this is what you’re all thinking). Yes, but it was so good it’s back for 2025! Chocolate brown has undoubtedly been the ‘It’ colour of AW24 and since the cold weather isn’t over, it doesn’t look like our love for this delicious-looking hue is either. I suspect we’ll be playing with the texture of our chocolate brown pieces next year. Think suede, shiny patent and croc-effect finishes, plus more fur.

Suede Loafers, Continued

Classic shoes in a material that has all the potential to be enlisted as a contemporary classic in our wardrobe. Of course suede loafers are expected to trend next year, too! I’m betting on more options in classic black, plus everyone’s favourite chocolate brown. I’d also love to see more moccasins available for women – I think these would make a gorgeous option for casual shoes worn with jeans.
