How I Unwind After a Busy Day

You know how it goes – long days, a packed schedule, constant travel… I’ve got a million things going on at once. But no matter how chaotic the day, I always make sure to end it in a way that makes me feel centered and ready to sleep. After all, with so many nights spent in hotel rooms and airports, it’s important to find comfort and consistency in my evening routine.

I know, I know – everyone says self-care is essential, but honestly, when you’re on the go like I am, it can be hard to stick to. That’s why I’ve gotten a little creative over the years, finding ways to make sure my bedtime routine stays intact, even if I’m in a new city every week. For me, the key is little luxuries that help me relax, recharge, and prepare for sleep.

1. Hydration and Journaling

It all starts with hydration—both inside and out. My Stanley water bottle is always by my side, ensuring I stay hydrated throughout the night. And of course, the first step is always to slip into my favorite pajamas or nightdress.

But it’s not just about products; it’s also about creating a peaceful environment. I always make sure my journal is next to my bed. There’s something incredibly calming about taking a few minutes to jot down my thoughts at the end of the day. Since the beginning of the year, I’ve made a habit of writing in it regularly again—it’s become a wonderful part of my nightly ritual.

And of course, I never forget my headphones. Whether it’s music or a podcast, I always have something calming to listen to as I wind down. It helps me clear my mind and truly relax before bed.

Journaling can change everything. Watch here.

2. Skin Care: My Go-To Routine

Once I’ve got my water sorted, it’s time for skincare. After all, nothing says “wind down” like a good skincare routine, right? I never skip my serum and face cream—both are absolute staples that make my skin feel hydrated and fresh, no matter how tired I am. And of course, I never forget my lip mask. I swear by it—especially during the winter months when my lips need all the love they can get.

Another thing that’s become an essential in my routine is the Dr. Dennis Gross LED device. I use it every night, no matter where I am. The calming light helps me relax and gives my skin a boost, making it one of my favorite beauty gadgets for a reason.

I also make sure to always have a hand cream by the bed, especially during the winter months.

3. Hair Care: A Nightly Ritual

Taking care of my hair before bed is one of my favorite self-care moments. I always start with a gentle session using my hairbrush—a simple yet effective step to keep my hair smooth and detangled after a busy day. Then, I like to treat my scalp with a massager to boost circulation and promote relaxation. If my hair feels dry or needs some extra love, I’ll apply a bit of Kérastase  hair oil, focusing on the ends to keep them soft and hydrated.

Finally, I tie my hair up in a loose ponytail or bun with silk scrunchies that don’t cause damage, ensuring my hair stays protected while I sleep. It’s a routine that feels luxurious yet effortless and helps me wake up with healthier, happier hair.

4. Relaxation Rituals: Wind Down in Style

When I’m really in the mood to settle down, I’ll brew a warm cup of herbal tea. It’s my go-to for those evenings when I need to relax. A little cup of warmth before bed just makes everything feel cozy and peaceful, and it’s the perfect way to transition into my night routine.

I always make sure to wrap myself up in a soft, fluffy blanket and slip into my favorite cashmere socks. There’s something about those small comforts that makes even the longest day feel a little bit better.

Usually, I either dive into a book, catch up on a YouTube video, or watch a movie with Filippo – but let’s be real, I’m almost always the one who falls asleep after about 15 minutes! So, let’s just say it’s not always the most successful endeavor during the workweek. But hey, it’s the thought that counts, right?

How I relaxed and unwound during the Christmas holidays is here.

I’ll admit, there are times when my nightly routine isn’t as slow and relaxing as I’d like it to be. Life can get hectic, and with such a fast-paced schedule, I often find myself working on last-minute tasks or answering emails right before bed. Even so, I make it a point to carve out at least 15 minutes for myself, whether I’m at home or in a hotel room.

Sometimes, it’s as simple as making a cup of tea and completing my skincare routine – small rituals that remind me to pause and take care of myself, even on the busiest days. It’s not always perfect, but it’s better than skipping it altogether.
