MAKE SMART DRESSING EASY
I love my high-end tailored blazers, shirts, trousers and skirts that I’ve invested some real money in. But that doesn’t mean there aren’t some amazing quality tailored pieces available on the high street. And who doesn’t love a budget-friendly price tag? I like to think that contemporary tailoring is as much about comfort and ease as it is looking and feeling smart. So for my go-to guide on high-street tailoring, I’m focusing on casual knits, multitasking coats, oversized blazers, simple shirts and versatile trousers, plus the accessories to match.
A Comfy Smart Mix
Up first, I’m keeping things simple by mixing both cosy and smart elements. Let’s start things off with a classic pair of pleated trousers (Mango and COS are always my favourite high-street options for these). Then match it with simple knitwear, a slim-fitting button-up is a great option as it’s cosy but doesn’t look too loungewear-esque. A classic relaxed rollneck in dark green, camel, chestnut or chocolate brown is also a good choice.

Make It Match
For me, the strongest case for a matchy-matchy look is tailoring. And I’m loving what my go-to high-street brands have to offer this season. Keep things simple with a sleek high-collar wool blazer and barrel trousers from COS, or be a triple threat with Mango’s waistcoat plus suit blazer and trousers. Office styling, sorted.

Tailor Your Night
Incorporating tailored aspects into party and eveningwear looks is kind of underrated – and making the jacket a part of the look is very smart in more than one way. There are lots of great velvet suit blazers and trousers that look beautiful as a pair for a festive-appropriate party look, or you can team a velvet blazer with a party dress and you’re good to go.

A Long Tailored Coat
A tailored long coat is just about the easiest way I can think of for looking smart this season. It’s that kind of one-and-done piece you’re always going to need in your wardrobe, and there are some great options from affordable high-street labels. Simple trousers and a crisp shirt underneath, plus an everything tote as your work bag, or a casual crossbody come the weekend.

Comfortable & Collected
My ultimate cheat sheet for affordable and immensely comfortable smart dressing during AW24. Just add an oversized blazer or long tailored coat and no one will know that you’re essentially wearing what could technically be classed as a lounge set to the office! Work smart, not hard with your wardrobe this season.
