6 BAGS I’M WEARING ON REPEAT FOR AW24

Hello handbag arm candy ...

On today’s agenda is bag talk so let’s discuss the bag styles and trends that have earned a spot in my rotation for Autumn/Winter 2024. I’ve always been a believer in big bags but recently I’ve been opting for more designs of the roomier variation. Whether it’s top-handle bags that have space for everyday essentials (plus extras) like the Miu Miu Aventure, or my favourite cult-classic carryall, The Row’s Margaux – this season I’ve got things to carry! These are the six bags I’m loving right now, plus how I’ve been styling them, and suggestions for affordable alternatives. It’s time for cool accessory arm candy all round.

The Row Margaux

If this list had to be shortened to just one bag, there’s no wavering in my belief that The Row Margaux is taking the top spot. Since being released in 2018 it’s become a modern icon for us luxury lovers. In typical The Row fashion, it can be identified by its understated and practical design and boasts a cult-like popularity that other styles can only envy. It comes in 10, 12, 15 and 17 versions (the numbers refer to the width in inches) so you can choose something a little more compact or a luxe carryall.

Alaïa Le Teckel

This is a bag that I’ve been loving for a while. Us fashion set declared the design the ‘It’ Bag of spring this year but it’s enjoyed a steady stream of popularity since its release – a tricky feat in the wild west of the luxury handbag market. The Alaïa Le Teckel’s striking east-west shape has been one of this year’s major bag trends and Alaïa’s exaggeratedly long rectangular design with extra-long handles makes the bag feel very statement. Plus, it holds more than you’d expect so is actually very practical.

Bottega Veneta Andiamo Clutch

Up next is Bottega Veneta’s Andiamo Clutch. Clutch bags are having somewhat of a renaissance this season which I am LOVING. Drawing on the reputation of Bottega’s Andiamo bags which have become some of the label’s newest classics, the Andiamo Clutch is very Bottega but the structured super-long silhouette feels new and a switch up from the brand’s signature slouchy designs. I also love how it’s got a top handle for when I need a break from slotting it snuggly under my arm.

Miu Miu Aventure

New for AW24, the Miu Miu Aventure has all the features of a classic, casual top-handle bag with some fun elements thrown in for good measure. Inspired by a heritage design from back in 2009 (because that’s considered vintage now), it’s got a softly curved top and belt buckle detail across the front for a hardware-heavy finish. I’ve been loving the smaller top-handle version but the larger style works great as an everything tote to carry over your shoulder.

Bottega Veneta Hop

Another Bottega Veneta option has earned a spot on this list because I clearly can’t get enough. Bottega Veneta’s Hop bag is essentially a super-sized version of the Jodie design. Slouchy and covered in the house’s signature Intrecciato weave, I find this hobo style so practical and I love it in this dark chocolatey brown as part of easy autumnal looks – especially with a touch of suede.

Hermès Birkin

The Hermès Birkin is always going to be on my list of most-worn bags, no matter the season. My Birkin in Etoupe is a gorgeous option for autumn/winter dressing. The soft grey shade works so well as a neutral with creams, chocolatey browns and black whether as part of casual or smarter looks. And in the spirit of big bag love, I’m thinking about investing in a bigger Birkin, maybe a 35 or a 40.
