7 TRENDS TO KNOW FROM PFW SS25

And Where To Shop Them ...

And just like that, another Fashion Month is over. Ending on the highest note possible in Paris, the SS25 season has been a memorable one, for sure. And perhaps there was no greater display of awe-inspiring looks, sophisticated takes on established plus emerging trends and fashion-history-making moments than Paris Fashion Week.

Bella Hadid made her great return to the runway at Saint Laurent after a two-year hiatus, while Kylie Jenner made her Paris Fashion Week runway debut at Coperni’s Disneyland Paris show. We saw the shocking arrival of pantaloons at Chemena Kamali’s Chloé and a possible new ‘It bag’ on the horizon from Nicolas Ghesquière at Louis Vuitton. There was a lot going on. So it’s time for a runway recap to round up all the best trends to know (and shop) now from PFW. Let’s go!

Ethereal Dressing

If you take note of one standout trend from Fashion Month SS25, let it be ethereal dressing. The trend has crossed continents and aesthetics this season. At Paris, this Goddess aura was out in full force, from airy pleated gowns at Elie Saab, Stella McCartney and Nina Ricci, to sheer and feathered dresses at Alexander McQueen presented on a smoke-filled runway for a heavenly display.

But my favourite development on the trend, which is largely tied to the sheer dressing mania we’ve seen on the runway and red carpet for quite a few seasons, was at Victoria Beckham. Ultra-light silk chiffon was dipped into a resin to make sculpted tops and dresses that seemed to flutter in the wind – romantic and ethereal. Plus, some pieces were styled with low-rise trousers to create an edgier look that felt super wearable.

Pretty Pastels

Who doesn’t love a pretty pastel for Spring? Over in Paris, designers couldn’t seem to get enough of pale-toned colour palettes. At Chanel, the creative studio team who designed the collection covered the house’s classic tweed in pastel shades of blue, pink and yellow, as well as floaty sheer numbers. Muted ballerina pinks and blues were spotted on everything from tailored trench coats and pleated sheer gowns to fuzzy pom dresses at Stella McCartney. And Chemena Kamali championed peachy hues for her Chloé collection, plus mint green, buttermilk yellow and icy blue.

Capri Pants

One of the breakout (and most unexpected) stars of Paris Fashion Week SS25 are capri pants. They’ve been gaining style momentum all summer but the enthusiasm with which the runways have embraced the cut-off trousers style has been a little shocking (and, of course, absolutely thrilling). Striped and tweed versions made appearances at Louis Vuitton but the most polarising display of this cropped design was in the form of … wait for it … pantaloons at LV and Chloé. This trend, even in pantaloon form is proving to be increasingly wearable, especially for warmer weather. So SS25, watch this space!

Micro Shorts

On the topic of cut-off bottoms, this next trend takes the concept to an extreme. Admittedly, I am surprised by the longevity of the micro shorts phenomenon on the runway because it feels like they first popped up quite a few seasons ago. But for an enduring trend to hold its own at Paris Fashion Week, brava! This season, there’s been no shortage of the itty-bitty style on the runway, with lace details at Chloé and worn under sheer trousers at Hermès. One thing I love about this trend (and no doubt the reason for its continued runway presence) is that micro shorts are surprisingly versatile. You can even wear them now with tights or under sheer pieces.

Clashing Prints

Like we saw the return of ‘90s ugly chic at Prada in Milan, Paris Fashion Week brought a sense of playful experimentation when it came to bold colours and prints. At Louis Vuitton, it was a fanfare of vibrant multi-hued patterns and colourblocking. I ADORED Dries Van Noten’s use of pink and purple animal prints, especially when paired with simple black pieces and for his debut at Valentino, Alessandro Michele used red lace tights and vibrant purple boots as part of his colourblocking looks, and mismatched an array of vintage-inspired patterns to whimsical effect.

Make It Maximalist

There was certainly a feeling of excitement in the Parisian air this season. Bold prints, silhouettes and embellished details exhibited a more is more ethos that was just so fun. Much of it was in the details, like the turned-up ruffle collars at Hermès, or Elie Saab’s belted silhouettes with extended shoulders that nodded to ‘80s power dressing. Overt opulence was also in full swing and presented a clear distinction from the quiet luxury phenomenon, a sign that the fashion pendulum is swinging once again, moving away from minimalism and towards more maximalist styling.

Sexy Suiting

Whether channelling soft tailoring or ‘80s power dressing, a good suit is always in style. At Paris, designers leaned into a sultrier aesthetic, with low-cut styles at Nina Ricci and layered with sheer bodysuits underneath at Victoria Beckham. Bella Hadid made her great return to the runway with masculine suiting at Saint Laurent. Her oversized double-breasted suit paired with a tie, glasses and a slicked-back bun felt very contemporary and already has me planning workwear looks.
