THE ALGORITHM & FASHION ONLOOKERS SHOULD LISTEN TO PRADA
No one fuses bold ideas with sleek simplicity quite like Prada. It’s the label that pioneered ‘ugly chic’ back in the ‘90s with clothes that simultaneously delighted and confused onlookers. And its collections since have always been firmly grounded in the true Prada DNA. Setting trends, not following them, is a huge part of this. Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons’ Spring/Summer 2025 show during Milan Fashion Week demonstrated this perfectly, and in the most fun way.
Packed with eye-catching colour combinations, space-age metallics and punk-esque hardware details, with house classics seamlessly interspersed throughout. The collection used the concept of stylish chaos to break free from the algorithm-led digital world, instead choosing to embrace the spontaneity and unpredictability of the real one. Despite the bold, attention-grabbing looks on the runway that could be easily mistaken for more of fashion’s fleeting crazes, the collection was actually a rejection of micro trends and championed Prada’s core style identity. Sleek, functional and a little bit polarising.
It was a dream to attend the show and be dressed by the brand. I wore a softly sleek tailored look that was just so Prada. A cosy sweater with tiny buttons, plus a softly sculpted pencil midi skirt and longline coat. Styled, of course, with my new Prada Aimée bag and the label’s signature point-toe flats.

SHOP MY LOOK
Now let’s unpack the key trends, themes and takeaways from the Prada SS25 show. Here are my top five.
Colours Are For Contrasting
One of my favourite ways to wear colour is the Prada way. A plain palette of greys, navy, white and black with tantalising pops of scarlet red, slime green, tangerine orange, sunshine yellow, cobalt blue and dark purple thrown in for good measure. I love my brightly hued Prada accessories (I could practically live in my Prada point-toes in peony pink with a silky finish). And the ‘pop of red’ trend has been scoring sought-after attention amongst the street style set for a while now. But on the runway at Prada this season it was all about entire items of clothing in all kinds of bright colours being used to create an interesting contrast within looks.
One of the most striking examples was the selection of skin-hugging tights worn as leggings. My favourite display was a bubblegum pink pair, belted and teamed with a neutral camel buttoned polo top and leather loafers to give the look an equestrian edge. Orange skirts and boots, plus fuchsia pink and yellow layers added a fun, colourful contrast, too. I also loved Prada and Simons’ use of black mesh over slime green and cornflower blue ensembles.

Heavy is the Hardware
Hardware-heavy shoes won big at NYFW. But at Prada, metal embellishments were not restricted to footwear. Part-punk and part something else entirely, Prada’s use of metal rings and unevenly shaped discs attached to everything from skirts and shift dresses to bralettes and sleeve hems was just so cool. And very wearable. I loved the belts featuring hanging metal hoops – great with the garments fully covered in metallic adornments but they will also work great on their own to add a statement edge to otherwise minimalist looks.

There’s A New Space Age
Designers have long travelled outside our galaxy to find inspiration – think Nicolas Ghesquière’s space-alien-style sunglasses that fused with cowboy-core accents for Louis Vuitton Cruise 2025. But at Prada this season, it was all about combining notoriously cool space-age elements with beloved staple silhouettes to create pieces that the self-confessed Prada girl will actually want to wear. Take the stiff A-line skirt in a glossy metallic finish with large eyelet cutouts all over that exposed a pair of navy micro shorts underneath. It’s also available in black to be even more appropriate for your wardrobe. My favourite was the sequin dress scattered with crystal-trimmed circular mirrors (will definitely be saving this for party season next year).

Flats Over Heels Any Day
Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons said flats over heels, any day. And I (along with my feet) concur. There was an expansive assortment of flat shoes walking the runway. From some of Prada’s most classic, like leather loafers and sharp point toes, to most standout styles, like the label’s 2012 rocket shoes. Also on offer were Mary Janes, brogues with multicoloured flatform soles and waterproof cowboy boots in white and tangerine orange. Us flat lovers are certainly not lacking for choice.
There’s Room for Plenty of Bag Shapes Next Season
For a good while now it’s felt like there could only be one winning bag silhouette per season. Last season it was the exaggeratedly rectangular east-west shape, this one, scooped shoulder bags seem to be reigning supreme, and in the past we’ve seen structured mini designs have their moment. But for SS25, Prada says, why restrict ourselves? Bucket bags, boxy cube designs, trapezoid shapes, returning favourites like the Prada Cleo (obviously), plus an oversized yellow shoulder style that caught my eye. Who else is excited for all the impending handbag arm candy?!
So to sum up, Prada’s SS25 collection was a delightfully intriguing exploration into the brand’s identity and core design philosophy. Centred around the wearable silhouettes that Prada does best, it emboldened us all to make our fashion choices based on the practical styles and shapes we love and have the most fun wearing. And as always, it was one hell of a show!
More of my runway takeaways are coming soon so stay tuned.
