Let’s hear this print roar!
Leopard print has always been part of the style zeitgeist. Whether it’s a playful pattern to adorn accessories or on coats and dresses to make a fashion statement that the animal kingdom would approve of, this print has staying power. But this year, we’ve seen leopard love roar. Popularity for the animal print seems to have reached an all-time high. This can be noted, in part, to the viral mob-wife aesthetic that made the rounds on TikTok at the beginning of the year championing skin-tight leopard print looks worn with opulent gold jewellery and furs. But the continued hold that leopard print has over fashion is about much more than fleeting social media crazes.
Leopard print is iconic. It’s been praised as the most fun neutral, and I concur. From fashion-history-making runway looks of the ‘90s to a street style staple of today. Whether you love making bold statements with your outfits or like to keep things understated and minimalist, leopard print is shaping up to be one of the most versatile trends of the season. And its camel, brown and black colour palette is perfect for autumn styling. Here’s how to wear the trend, and what pieces to shop.
Leopard as the Statement
If you want to really have some fun with this trend, bold is the way to go. Think one and done pieces that completely make your look. A figure-hugging leopard print dress is always a showstopper. It’s great to pair these with the most minimalist accessories, especially in simple black, white and brown shades to let the print make all the noise.
Another great piece to easily add some fun to autumn outfits is a leopard print coat. A longline trench style is my favourite (Dolce & Gabbana do the ultimate main-character-energy design) but faux fur and cropped iterations also do the trick. And for something more casual, try a leopard print skirt or pair of trousers. We always tend to be more experimental when it comes to prints and embellishments on our top halves but it can be a nice switch up to style a simple black top with a bolder design below.
Leopard to Finish
If you still want to be playful with leopard print but in a more subtle way, try making your accessories of the animal variety. Leopard print bags (especially in suede or with a faux fur effect), plus boots, ballet flats and even trainers, as well as scarves and hair accessories compliment autumnal outfits beautifully. To make your leopard print even more low key but no less fun, phone cases and bag charms sporting the bold pattern are a great option, and they make cute gifts, too.
