CHLOÉ BRACELET BAG REVIEW

I spy a new ‘It’ bag on the horizon …

If you need any more confirmation that boho chic is back, look no further than the Chloé Bracelet bag. A new version of a popular early ‘00s archival design reimagined for the Chloé girl of today. The slouchy crescent-shaped hobo-style piece of arm candy, courtesy of the label’s new Creative Director, Chemena Kamali, as part of her debut Autumn/Winter 2024 collection for the house, is so much more than simply a bag.

Part-jewellery, part-handbag, and partly a signal of a new beginning for Chloé, while celebrating the Parisian cool girl energy that’s always been at the heart of the brand’s DNA. Chloé’s Bracelet bag is every bit an ‘It’ accessory in the making. I’ve managed to get my hands on it in the size small and colour Woodrose (a dusty pink that’s very on-brand). So let’s delve into the good stuff. From need-to-know design details to the story behind the bag and how I love styling it.

Behind The Design

Chloé’s AW24 collection was a return to the days of ‘00s boho love but in a contemporary way, embodying who the Chloé girl is today. And no accessory epitomises this spirit like the Chloé Bracelet bag. Building on a popular design from the early ‘00s by none other than Phoebe Philo (Philophiles, it’s time to get excited), this new incarnation of Chloé’s Bracelet bag feels classic yet contemporary. In a covetable hobo shape, it nods to the boho aesthetic and prioritises practicality. The design draws on different influences, from vintage favourites and established Chloé icons to the most hotly-anticipated bag trends of the season, but still feels unique and presents something new.

At heart, I’ve always been a Chloé girl. When I’m wearing Chloé, I always feel I’m striking the perfect balance between looking put together and that laissez-faire sensibility that makes the label’s uniquely Parisian approach to dressing simple, elegant and striking. From the brand’s runway shows I’ve attended to my love of Chloé bags like the Paddington (my first major bag crush that I still adore, and now I love shopping for vintage versions). I’m a huge fan of the label. So I’m excited that the new Chloé Bracelet bag is joining the ranks.

Bracelet bags have been touted as the hottest new accessory of AW24. And Chloé is the trend’s pioneer. The bracelet element of the brand’s latest design is actually a Chloé signature, with many of the label’s most popular bags like the Tess and Faye styles featuring a bracelet-style ring detail. The Chloé Nile bag that was first released back in 2017 to wild acclaim sports a circular metal handle. But the new Bracelet bag embraces the style further with a larger ring detail designed to be worn on the wrist like any other piece of precious jewellery.

However you opt to carry, this style offers a bold approach to what’s shaping up to be the season’s most in-demand bag trend but with plenty of charm to make it an enduring Chloé classic. Plus, I’m a fan of any accessory I can jingle.

Ways to Wear

One thing to note about the Chloé Bracelet bag is that you really feel like you’re getting your money’s worth. There are multiple ways to carry which are all very different so it feels like several bags in one.

First up is the most classic use of the bracelet-style design – wearing the bracelet ring around your arm. This way, it feels just like another piece of jewellery but much more practical and you have your hands free for a relaxed Chloé girl look. You can also use the bracelet feature as a top handle – a different take on a classic sophisticated top-handle bag that feels super fun and contemporary. And I’m also a fan of sliding the bracelet loop through my arm to wear the bag on my shoulder.

The bag’s detachable longer strap is what really gives this style unbeatable versatility. You can remove the bracelet detail and instead wear crossbody or carry on your shoulder and this gives the style a longer, half-moon silhouette that feels a little more casual, embodying the relaxed spirit of boho dressing. I’ve been styling mine with all-white outfits and it also goes great with leather jackets, classic denim and soft tailoring for a simple statement year-round.

Colour, Material & Size Options

When I think of Chloé, one of the first things that comes to mind is grained leather accessories in a palette of rich near-neutrals – think dusty pinks, chestnut browns, deep mauve-ish shades and gorgeous creams. So it’s no surprise the brand has opted for these tried-and-tested hues for a bag that’s set to be the newest house classic.

Also on offer is black goatskin suede (available in the small size only) to channel cowgirl-core meets boho chic (a crossover I can definitely get on board with). This version has a velvety-soft finish and it’s decorated with a metal snake wrapped around one end – a slithering serpent detail akin to engravings found alongside precious jewels. I also love the studded leather iterations (available in the small and large sizes only) for a slight punkish-inspired take on the hobo silhouette.

SHOP MORE STYLES

In small, large and oversized options, there’s a wide range of sizes available to cover myriad different uses. I love my small Chloé Bracelet bag as a compact everyday option. But if you’re looking for something you can throw everything in and head off to work or perhaps overnight, I’d recommend sizing up. The large option comes sans bracelet feature, only with the long strap that you can wear on your shoulder or crossbody – either way it has the look of a slouchy satchel – very boho. The price jump is a little more significant than we often see with a larger version of the same bag but, since there’s no medium size available, the extra space you get is pretty substantial.

And for a different look entirely, there’s a version available with a playful banana-shaped gold-tone handle, inspired by the House’s Spring/Summer 2001 collection. It reminds me of Bottega Veneta’s Sardine bag, only with a slightly softer, elongated silhouette and fruity hardware that makes a statement.
