Your Ultimate Holiday Dressing Guide

Styles that say bon voyage

The art of curating the perfect getaway wardrobe should never be underestimated. Dreamy trips to sandy beaches and days spent exploring new cities, a magical warm-weather holiday deserves the clothing, shoes and accessories to match. And there’s a whole new set of style criteria for once you’ve turned on your ooo mode. Think vibrant colour palettes, bold prints and novelty details. The spontaneity of the season translated into fun looks that make sense.

From the beach-club-inspired Gucci Lido Collection and raffia favourites by Prada to the five items you should never go away without, here’s my guide to packing like a pro this season.

Beach Bound

Whether basking in the tranquillity of a tropical island resort or sunning on the Italian coast as part of Euro Summer, beach style is the ultimate care-free dressing that’s mixed with a little holiday magic. Crochet, cutouts, fringe, sheer fabrics and wrap-tie details are all staples when it comes to creating beachy looks with ease. Lightweight maxi dresses are an undisputed beach styling hero for me. Opt for a racerback style to make it feel super casual and I love sheer pieces when I want to show off my bikini underneath.

And while we’re on the topic of swimwear, I’ve been loving classic monochrome and neutral options from Chanel and Fendi, as well as statement floral-adorned styles from Magda Butrym. Don’t forget some options for cover-ups – I love colourful sarongs from Pucci and white popover dresses.

The new Gucci Lido Collection has the dose of vibrant colours necessary for beachside dressing – from logoed straw hats and oversized monogram canvas totes, to silk crop tops and skirts printed with the house’s signature Horsebit motif. And when it comes to raffia accessories, my go-to is Prada.

City Slicker

Casual and comfortable, but polished enough for plenty of Instagrammable snaps, a day-trip-worthy holiday outfit suitable for roaming a new city needs to be a hard worker! Co-ords are always an easy option, from linen waistcoats you can mix and match with trousers, shorts and skirts in the same material, to crochet sets that channel the re-emerging boho chic trend. Strapless tops are a great way to elevate simple outfits and beat the heat. Plus, intricately embroidered details have become a much-loved holiday staple – who doesn’t love blue on a white background to channel your inner Grecian-inspired Goddess?

And for the shoes to take you on your travels? Simple slingbacks, comfortable trainers or a raffia-accented pair (my favourite is from Prada). When it comes to bags, crossbody options are the way to go.

Nights Like These

For candlelight dinners or those outings with friends when you don’t arrive home until sunrise, getting all dressed up for evenings is the main event of any holiday (or at least it is in my case). My roundup of top trends to incorporate into looks this season includes ruffles, sheerness, black-and-white monochrome, animal print (my go-to timeless neutral), strappy details and sweeping fringe hems. To add romance, I love Magda Butrym’s signature 3D rose motifs and I rely on vibrant prints for quintessential summer pizzazz (Mango have some gorgeous options this season).

For the finishing touches, strappy heeled sandals, to-die-for top-handle bags and sparkly accessories are my go-tos. Favourites so far this summer include Chloé’s Bracelet bag and the Jimmy Choo Cinch Mini that has a longer strap perfect to facilitate dancing!

And now onto the five items that make your suitcase complete.

1. A Timeless Tank

Simple and understated, a tank top is a building block for myriad holiday outfits. With shorts, sandals and a raffia tote en route to the beach or with linen trousers and a crossbody when venturing out into town. It’s an essential you won’t want to be without.

2. A Breezy Button-Up

Plain white or with pinstripes in crisp cotton or lightweight linen, whatever way you take it, a breezy shirt is a holiday staple. It doubles as a swimsuit cover-up, too.

3. A Multi-Tasking Midi

Whether taking the form of a dress or a skirt, a midi can do more than most clothing items. White A-line, black satin or dropped-hem dress iterations are my styles of choice.
