As summer officially draws to a close (sigh) and I look back on what’s been an incredible season packed with unforgettable travels, the best food and even better company, it’s time to reflect on my August Monthly Favourites. Tanning, swimming and sleeping have been my priorities lately. But before I wave goodbye (for now) to pre-breakfast dips in the pool, beach days and sunset spotting, I want to delve into the things that have made my month so special. From Chanel monochrome looks and relaxing sleep remedies to the new makeup finds I’ll be taking into autumn. Let’s go! 

Anyone who’s been following me this month knows that my infatuation with this shade has reached new heights. What I’ve been loving most about styling rich burgundy hues throughout August is that it’s not a colour you’d normally associate with summer. But this makes it a challenge and all the more fun!

Flat sandals and Gucci sunglasses in the label’s latest ‘It’ colour, the burgundy Rosso Ancora shade, have been my go-tos when it comes to bold accessorising. Midi dresses and blazers have been a great way to layer the colour as part of summer looks that feel super contemporary, and they’ll prove ideal for transitional dressing as autumn begins. I haven’t forgotten lipstick to match (my favourite is Gucci’s 509 Rosso Ancora Rouge À Lèvres Mat Lipstick). 

A bandeau top is a must for warm weather and TOVE’s Izel bandeau top gets extra points because it’s made from pure linen. In a sandy beige, it’s been the perfect easy neutral to slot into my wardrobe this month. Slightly crinkled with soft gathers for a super-relaxed feel, it pairs beautifully with smart trousers for soft tailoring. A classic brand deserves the most classic styling phenomenon of the year so far. Black and white monochrome dressing has been everywhere from runways to the high street. On the days this month when I’ve wanted to take a break from bright colours, I’ve opted for black and white Chanel styles that channel sophisticated simplicity (for those of us not over fashion’s obsession with quiet luxury). Think black Chanel swimsuits with discreet white logos and trims, plus cat-eye sunglasses, simple tees and vintage tweed jackets that will make for a great light layer come autumn.

At least one pair of kitten heels would make it into my 10 most worn items of all time and, this month, I’ve been loving them as much as ever. They’re an easy, no-fuss approach to heels and a great way to look more dressed up than you actually are. My favourite this month has been Miu Miu’s patent leather slingback version, in the shade Popora to go with my burgundy looks. But I’ve also been liking open-toe styles that are super versatile – and will still be great with midi dresses for those warm autumn days we have to look forward to.

My go-to product for nose contouring, Persona’s contour stick bronzer adds a gorgeous warmth to my skin that’s been perfect for giving me a sun-kissed glow on August days. It’s super blendable, great as part of any quick and easy makeup routine. And it goes without saying that it’s earned a coveted spot in my summer beauty favourites.

I really appreciate the power of a good blending brush when it’s hot and sticky and I just want to get my makeup done. So this month, my love for Hourglass brushes has been reaffirmed. On my list of top picks is Hourglass’ Veil powder brush (a favourite of Hailey Bieber, amongst others) and I also recommend investing in a handy travel set for holidays and beyond.

Dolce & Gabbana is one of those brands I always rely on to make me feel beautiful and empowered. And the new D&G Beauty line is no different. My top picks? The Face & Eyes Match Lasting Bronzer and Eyeshadow Powder – an everyday essential that hydrates and easily defines my look, plus it comes in a refillable compact with a handy mirror. Also, the Fig Skin Perfector for controlling grease and shine while minimising the look of my pores. And what’s become my Holy Grail, the Devotion Liquid Lipstick. It’s got an incredible formula that’s super long lasting with no transfer.

This August has been my time for calm before the whirlwind of Fashion Month so getting the right amount of rest and relaxation has been key. I’ve been loving Rituals’ The Ritual Of Jing Sweet Dreams Aroma Diffuser for practically sending me to sleep when my bedtime rolls around. With a blend of lavender (that’s known to aid relaxation) and sandalwood, it’s got a soft floral scent that’s not too strong. I start the 10 minute cycle and that’s when I know it’s time to unwind.
