It’s off to the French Riviera for us fashion pack

A long-held tradition in the glamorous world of movies, Cannes Film Festival has come to be regarded as the pinnacle of style and opulence. Set against the dreamy French Riviera backdrop, this annual rendezvous recognises the best in artistic achievement, not just in film but fashion too, with the red carpet each year scattered with creations by the best designers. This year, I was once again invited to attend, joining a host of tastemakers and creatives at Cannes Film Festival to celebrate the most highly anticipated movies of the year.

In this post, I’m going to take you behind the scenes of my time at the 77th Cannes Film Festival. From getting ready with my talented glam team to stepping onto the red carpet, let me take you inside one of fashion and film’s hottest events.

Getting Ready

Starting off steady with some 111SKIN under-eye masks to get the glow, my first look aimed to dazzle, so of course my skin had to look dewy and radiant. Red carpet looks are as much about the preparation as they are the finishing touches and skin prep is key. The mood for my hair was sleek and sophisticated so who better to trust than Paul Duchemin and Dessange Paris. We went with a side parting with soft waves falling down one shoulder to pay homage to the glamorous starlets of old Hollywood.

And now for the main event. The dress. When I was a child, I was told you never wear red on a red carpet. But in the spirit of debunking this fashion faux pas, I wore a red gown from Sophie Couture. Well versed in the art of making a statement at star-studded events, the label’s Founder and Creative Director Gunel Babayeva has become a master at crafting unique designs and elegant, feminine silhouettes.

Making the bold decision to blend in with the carpet proved a wise one. The daring scarlet red hue was all about embracing overt glamour for the evening. Hand-beaded all over, the dress had a sophisticated shimmer that seemed to twinkle when I walked. It was made up of a structured bodice with cutout details before falling to a midi hem, finished with long fringed tassels that were perfect for showing off my shoes – a pair of René Caovilla’s signature spiral heels in gold.

And for the jewellery, I turned to the design house that’s been trusted by film stars for decades – Tiffany & Co. The large link earrings and bold graduated link necklace are from Tiffany’s HardWear collection that’s inspired by a design from the ‘60s, using the brand’s signature gauge links to create bold looks with plenty of character. I paired everything with my favourite Elsa Peretti cuff bracelet.

And now onto look two. The Dior beauty team were in charge of my glam so I knew I was in good hands. Expertly creating a warm natural glow, this makeup look was simple so that my dress and gown could really do the talking. And, of course, the team used my favourite Dior beauty product of all time – the Forever Glow Maximizer liquid highlighter, my go-to for brightening and creating dewy skin with a soft glow.

I turned to Saudi fashion designer Eman AlAjlan for my second gown of the event. Known for her structural masterpieces and bold adornments, AlAjlan knows how to serve statement-making looks. But for Cannes, we opted for a minimalist white gown that was all about channelling my inner goddess. With an elegant boat neckline, it’s asymmetrical, with fabric draping over one shoulder and across my arms for a soft angelic look. The daring low-back design cut super low, falling to a long, sweeping train.

The real star of the show was the Ole Lynggaard Shooting Stars choker. Made up of thin hanging gold chains and vertical lines of diamonds finished with delicate pearls, this was a true outfit-defining piece. I wore it with the matching bracelet, both special-edition styles designed by the brand’s Creative Director, Charlotte Lynggaard.

And that wraps up my magical, movie-star-studded French excursion for 2024. I never get tired of walking the glitzy red carpet and am forever grateful for the opportunities I’ve been given. Onto the next glamorous event, and of course I plan on taking you all with me!

xoxo, Tamara
