Fashion Trends for 2024

DO TRENDS REALLY MATTER?

Its been a few cold months since I attended SS24 fashion shows and there I gathered a good idea on what sort of things we will see on the streets this year. Even if you havent watched the Devil Wears Prada, I am sure you know very well how the fashion works. First you see it on the runways, then it slowly infiltrates into the high street to finally make its way into everyones wardrobe and eventually to the streets and pop culture.

It doesn’t matter if you like to follow trends or you have your own personal style that is a signature to you for years. The good thing with trends is that they also talk about culture, about socio economic situation in the worlds (heard of the hemline theory?). When it comes to fashion – I always say where whatever makes your heart sing. Dont worry about what others think, we already have lots of rules to follow, so fashion should be more playful and enjoyable. That doesnt mean however we shouldn’t educate ourselves and dismiss the glamorous world of ever revolving fashion.

In this blog post, I summarised my predicitions of the biggest fashion trends for 2024. Some of them are staying from 2023 and others are slowly creeping into the hangers as we speak, so lets get to it.

READY FOR WHAT 2024 IS GONNA BRING OUR WAY?

TRANSPARENT SKIRTS

This one isnt gonna come as a big surprise because it slowly introduced its way into most of our wardrobes since SS23. I love it when a trend naturally makes its way to our hearts which makes it more natural to style in. Transparent skirts are a staple piece introduced from several brands on the runways during SS24. They are an eye-catcher and also something to spice up a boring outfit without reaching to colour.

In this case, they add a lot of texture to either a day or night outfit. During the day I would style them with basic sneakers or flats and for the night, I would style them with either boots or kitten heels. I think that you dont have to go full transparent, but can play with lace or texture and just give a little bit of clarity while leaving the rest to imagination. Of course if you are in to it, you can go all out just how Dolce & Gabbana gave it to us in the SS24 collection.

HIGH-RISE TROUSERS

For the year 2024, the waistline for pants will move upwards. Even though I love a huge variety of different jeans and trousers, I am also excited to reach for those with a higher waist in this year. They are generally more flattering and seem to make the silhouette seem more slender. I specially love those from Saint Laurent that are slim fit with a tiny bit of flair at the bottom. Remember I have a pair or to (ok or three but who is counting?)

Some of them come as a matching suits and they give “power-dressing” vibes and some of them can just be styled with a simple white T-shirt. That brings me to another trend – Suits, or Sets, but honestly I could tell you about so many trends that this post would be slightly overwhelming. Lets leave it here with a small reminder that paper bag trousers (my favourites) are usually high waist ones and I am shore for the entirety of the Hermès SS24 collection. Pre-order is my middle name.

90's LOOK

It doesnt matter when you were born – It’s time for the full 90’s comeback!

The trends is leaning towards 90’s style icons, such as Caroline Bessette-Kennedy or Princess Diana. So think about that minimal style meets glamour, the nonchalance and the effortless styling.

With simple basic pieces and especially with the right pair of 90’s cut jeans the look is quite easy to be reached. I love the 90s blazers that scream ” I just threw this on”. Ok maybe I am a little bit nostalgic as this reminds me also of my parents going to work when I was a child and this is my absolute favourite trend for 2024.

I personally love these The Row jeans because they have the perfect slim cut.

FRINGES

Not just the typical Coachella fringing we have seen here and there, but also the glamorous styles on dresses, embellished ones and those that scream Im Couture Baby! Fringes are something I haven’t worn a lot in the past years, but I wouldn’t get mad at a gorgeous glamorous Jil Sander gown. Think Khaite dresses and Gucci – Sabato era. Yep it only started but im so here for it.

They add movement and texture to a simple outfit and I especially adore it, when they are added to the hemline of a dress or a jacket. I think you can totally downplay them and wear them in a minimal way. I personally do not love fringes when they add the circus touch but we can totally avoid that look if we play it right.

MICRO SHORTS

Several designers introduced this trend the last few seasons. We have seen it at Chanel even which I have to be honest was a bit of a surprise. During the summer it’s easier to style micro shorts, but to incorporate this trend during the winter, I love it as a matching set, such as this Miu Miu one. With a pair of boots and a blazer, it will keep you warm and stylish for the colder months.

I dont care about the age and think everyone should wear whatever they want, but personally im not the 100% of the time into micro shorts. I would wear them for a special occasion, and event or a fashion show, but there are styles that I think are also perfect for all year long.

Think about Hermes SS24 high waisted paperboy shorts. Can. Not. Wait. There, I said it.

WHITE DRESSES

Ever since I said that very important YES last year I have been into this vibe, so naturally I am super excited to be shopping more of White Dress trend. During the SS24 shows there has been a huge rise of the “White” dresses and I have picked a few of my favourites below.

One brand that really explained how to do it is Valentino. Known for their savour faire and intricate detail Valentino with its creative director Pier Paolo Piccioli are experts in creating styles that flatter woman’s body and fit like a glove. Im personally a big fan and this is something you will see me wear over and over in 2024.
