Comparing My Black Hermès Bags

While colour coordinating my wardrobe, I realised I have quite a variety of black Hermès bags. They are simply classics that will last a life time and you will get so much wear out of them. In my collection I have colourful and neutral Hermès bags, but I somehow always go back to black. In this post I did a breakdown of each black Hermès bag I have, that way you can decide which style is most suitable for you.

The Hermès Mini Kelly is a smaller version of the iconic Kelly bag, known for its timeless elegance and luxurious craftsmanship. Perhaps my most worn Hermès bag – I love to wear it especially in the evenings as it goes with pretty much every outfits and holds your necessities: wallet, keys, lipstick and phone.

The Hermès Kelly 25 is a timeless and iconic handbag that exudes elegance and sophistication. Crafted from the finest materials, it features a structured silhouette and the signature Kelly lock closure. With its versatile size, it can easily transition from day to night, making it the perfect accessory for any occasion. I think this bag always adds a put together and clean look to the outfit, because of its structure.

The Hermès Constance bag is a highly coveted and iconic luxury handbag. It is known for its sleek and timeless design, featuring a signature H-shaped clasp on the front. Made with exquisite craftsmanship and attention to detail, the Constance bag is crafted from high-quality materials such as luxurious leather and adorned with beautiful hardware. It offers both style and functionality, with multiple compartments and a versatile shoulder strap that can be worn crossbody or doubled up for a shorter length.

In the beginning of the year I got the Constance bag in box leather and paladium hardware, and I have been wearing it ever since. Although I am being careful as this type of leather is very sensitive to scratching, I do not let it stop me from wearing it on a day to day.

Obviously, the most expensive bags in the Hermès line are exotic bags. Without a doubt. But not everyone is prepared to jump into the exotic pool without hesitation. Maybe money is on the line, or maybe it’s just a commitment to an expensive bag.

The Birkin Touch couldn’t be a more ideal bag for those who want a hint of exotic leather without making a full commitment—or those who just want to change it up a little and play with leather textures—or both.

Well, Hermès began making bags with just a “touch” of exotic leather a few years ago. Additionally, Touch Kellys, Touch Picotins, and even Touch Baton de Craies have been seen, so it’s not just Birkins! For Hermès’ purposes, these bags are “Limited Edition” and quite uncommon. Of all of them, the Touch Birkin is undoubtedly the most recognisable.
The flap, sangles, handles, and clochette of the Touch Birkin frequently feature “touches” of exotic leather—either crocodile or alligator. Togo leather or Novillo leather still makes up the majority of the Birkin. Although this is not a hard-and-fast rule and you can occasionally find the opposite pairings, Novillo typically goes along with shiny croc/alligator while Togo usually goes along with matte croc/alligator.

And my 2022 favourite – The Birkin 40. This was my travel bag for ages, it is the most chic large bag I own. As we know, last year was the year of big bags, and I believe it did continue into this year as well, however for anything else than travelling, this bag does get a bit to much to carry around on a day-to-day. So I would recommend this bag as a carry on piece, if you travel frequently.

Asking me about my favourite Hermès bag is like asking me to pick which hand I prefer, they are all so special and many memories tie me to them. On top of that they vary in size and that also makes them useful for different occasions, situations and their practicality is drastically different. Therefor my Mini Kelly is perfect for quick errand runs or evenings, and my Birkin Touch gives such a dose of glamour, specially with that matte alligator poking.
