Miu Miu Arcadie Bag

The word on the street (or rather everyone’s Instagram feed) is that Miu Miu’s latest Arcadie bag has been labelled this season’s “It” bag, with the beloved Wander bag falling closely behind. However, since TikTok popped up on the scene, it’s been tricky to distinguish what is and what isn’t an “It” piece and with Miu Miu’s Arcadie bag, its “It” factor lies within its versatile, functional and modern design — crossing the boundaries between function and decoration.

The soon-to-be “It” bag would make its debut at Miu Miu’s Fall/Winter 2023 collection, which took place at Palais d’Iéna, Paris — with a prominent focus on the act of observation, transformation, technique, materialisation and how these factors ultimately have the power to actively change how outfits visually read. The Ready-To-Wear collection featured twinsets, knee-length skirts, hooded sweatshirts, exposed stockings, overlaid dresses and of course lest we forget the jewel-embellished underwear which would quickly find its way onto the headlines of prominent magazines around the globe.

Yet, despite the Arcadie bag having debuted in Miu Miu’s Fall/Winter 2023 collection alongside the Wander bag, it arguably took a back seat whilst the Wander bag took centre stage — quickly becoming a staple in every fashion fanatics luxury bag collection. It wouldn’t be until earlier this month that the fashion industry turned its attention to the Arcadie.

After dominating 2022 (a.k.a the year of Miu Miu) with its viral risqué mini-skirts and delightful twist on satin ballerina flats, the Italian high-fashion brand is making a comeback with its latest viral campaign featuring the Italian high-fashion brand’s icon, American-Palestinian supermodel; Gigi Hadid.

Shot by the esteemed American fashion photographer, Steven Meisel whose vast extraordinary work has led Meisel to be considered one of the most successful fashion photographers in the industry. The campaign itself captured Gigi Hadid in the style of Margaret Keane, paying homage to the American artist’s highly-celebrated women-centric paintings which were brought to life using a unique brushstroke-like textured leather known as the Matelassé — a fabric of which we would later see in both the Arcadie and Wander bag.

Having first established in 1992 by Miuccia Prada (a name conceived from Miuccia Prada’s family nickname), the Italian high-fashion women’s clothing and accessory brand would publicly launch a year later in 1993, with a cowgirl-themed collection of fringed suede jackets and patchwork prairie skirts; and in 2006 would first present its womenswear collection during Paris Fashion Week in 2006. Since then, Miu Miu has continuously found its youthful designs and campaigns on the pages of numerous magazines which is why fashion forecasters expect the Arcadie to become this season’s “It” bag.

Its luxurious Matelassé motif reilluminates the Arcadie’s classic silhouette of the top-handle bag through its three-dimensional, textured, and extremely sophisticated effect. The lettering logo situated on the front of the bag echoes the contrasting metallic finishes, standing out against the refined artisan-crafted motif yet with an iconic and immediately recognizable touch. The qualities which further make the Arcadie that much special are its dynamic and elegant lines as well as the detachable and adjustable shoulder strap which contributes to the versatile, functional and modern design of the bag.
