Must-Try Summer Fragrances

Estée Lauder once said, “Perfume is like a new dress, it makes you quite simply marvellous.”

And, let’s just say, I’m in need of a new dress. As summer is fast approaching, my mind has turned to hunting down aromatic summer scents to douse myself with this season. Perfume is one of those ultra-luxurious things which doesn’t even have to be visible to have an impact on your outfit, mood and overall aura. Fragrances, unlike everything else when it comes to fashion, cannot rely on a striking visual finish to wow their wearers. They must impress only the noses of fashion lovers. But this is still a hard feat.

When it comes to perfumes, I’m a fan of fresh, spicy scents which are a little bit masculine. I don’t mind a touch of sweetness but I’d prefer to get the majority of my sugar intake from gelato this summer instead of sweet-smelling wearable scents!

“Perfume must not be linked just to fashion because that means that one day it will go out of style” - Thierry Mugler

In this post, I’ve put together a lustful list of summer fragrances you have to try. From new releases this year, to established popular classics for summertime, these scents are not to be skipped on.

Etro White Magnolia

New for 2021, this latest fragrance from Italian fashion house Etro is comprised of citrus, amber and fresh accents. It is suitable for both men and women and boasts a light floral scent without being sweet, which I love. The notes of amber make it distinct from clichéd sweet floral perfumes. The citrus and overall fresh smell make it perfect for summer days when you want to avoid feeling hot and bothered. This scent is shaping up to be one of my favourites for summer this year and is a must-sniff in my book!

Dior Eden-Roc

My next pick is another new release made for any gender. The Dior Eden-Roc is for those of us who miss holidaying (which I’m assuming is everyone). The perfume gets its name from the famous Hôtel du Cap-Eden-Roc located along the French Riviera. Its citrus, salty and fresh scent is inspired by the five-star hotel, with the salt aspect designed to make wearers feel like they’re diving into the Mediterranean Sea.

The citrus and salty notes make this fragrance perfect for summer,

especially if, like me, you’re not a fan of overly sweet floral smells.

Louis Vuitton Cactus Garden

This fragrance is not new but it remains a summer favourite of mine. Again, the scent is unisex and citrusy, fresh and spicy. Louis Vuitton’s Cactus Garden fragrance was released in 2019 as part of the house’s Les Parfums Collection.

It was created to make wearers feel like they were immersed in a tropical forest.

The lemongrass scent helps to give the fragrance a strong citrus aroma, the intensity of which helps set it apart from other citrus based perfumes. The bottle is a bright shade of cactus green, which coincidentally just so happens to be THE colour of the season. You can refill your bottle in selected LV stores, making it green on the sustainability front too!

L'Ombre Des Merveilles Hermès

This unisex perfume offering released by Hermès last year is warm and spicy, yet still ideal for summer. It features amber and is only a little bit sweet, so perfect for those, like me, who favour spicy and slightly masculine scents. The overall aroma is original and intense and has notes of black tea.

The result is a smell which has all the grace and elegance you would expect from Hermès.

Louis Vuitton Étoile Filante

The new Étoile Filante is part of Louis Vuitton’s travel-inspired fragrances,

influenced by the house’s famous heritage of travel.

Made for women, the scent is floral and fruity without being too sweet. There are also hints of citrus too which pair well with the other fruity scents. The name literally translates to shooting star and the smell is distinctive so is the ideal choice to make your signature scent.

Which perfumes on this list are you excited to try for summer?

xoxo, Tamara
