Trend: Plaid and Why I Love it

YOUR FALL WARDROBE IS GETTING A PLAID UPGRADE AND ITS 100% APPROVED

1990s signature styles are officially back in fashion and designers from Dior to Balenciaga have offered an abundance of plaid in their Fall/Winter 2019 Collection. I mean, who wasn’t obsessed with the iconic plaid outfit of Cher Horowitz in the movie Clueless? I certainly remember rewatching it far too many times, and even trying to copy some of her looks.

As the ’90s craze continues, plaid is making a comeback in everyone’s wardrobe, including mine. Since you guys know how much I love keeping you informed about all the hottest trends, I thought you would be interested to know about its origins too. Tartan can be traced back to the 14th century Scottish Highlands, where wool weavers would create unique patterns in order to distinguish one region from another, but it was re-introduced to the mainstream by fashion. Designers like Vivienne Westwood and her cult boutique “SEX” , as well as Alexander McQueen and his controversial “Highland Rape” collection, as a reference to his Scottish heritage. Plaid was commonly associated with punk and grunge aesthetic. Interestingly enough, tartan’s history is a story about identity, from it’s Scottish origins to Britain’s punk and Burberry’s iconic heritage print.

FROM THE FRONT ROW TO THE STREETS, ALL IS PLAID THIS SEASON.

From Prince of Wales to tartan and tweed, plaid is a fall/winter must-have for the season.  I gave the heritage trend update with the help of Prada, daring to go with bold colours and styling. Plaid from head to toe is a bold place to start, but to be honest I had so much fun styling this outfit that I wanted to share it with you! I paired it with my beloved Prada combat boots and Chanel Top Handle, reinventing a Blair Waldorf classic look, for a modern preppy feel.

Lately many of you have written to me that you don’t always want to buy expensive ready to wear, and that sometimes trend are best of left to high street. Since I love to mix and match – high and low, I opted for detailed lists of best tartan pieces for every pocket. Super curious to hear if you pick anything up.

Browse below for my favourite pieces from Prada to H&M (spoiler: I managed to find a great dupe for my Jacket, as well as amazing pieces on sale).

It is great to see that these styles are back in fashion! I have been wearing combat boots for almost 10 years and everyone I know was more than surprised with my choice of footwear! And today they are on everyone’s feet. How funny? But I quess that is the best thing about fashion, everything goes out and comes back to fashion in 10 or 20 years time. Also I’m more than obssesed with tartan and tweed! I quess we can thank the designers you mentioned in this post and also Coco Chanel for the tweed suit. I’m really into punk and grunge music, so I have always loved to incorporate tartan pieces in my wardrobe. As for the Cher Horowitz, I was also addicted to the fashion in this movie. And today I’m more than happy about the collaboration between H&M and Pringle of Scotland that launched a couple of months ago. I bought myself a handfull of pieces with their iconic print. Thank God!
Great outfit in today’s post! I’m more than happy that you are back to blogging more regularly! I don’t know if you remember me, but I’m one of your first followers back in your college days. It’s great to see how far you have come and would love to meet you in person one day! I would love to have a friend like you!
Happy Holidays and greetings from Sofia, Bulgaria!
