Silk Smooth Skin with Philips Lumea

Beauty Chat

I am not sure what season is my favourite, but I love the carefreeness that summer brings. We don’t need all the coats, too much makeup or even those gloves that have touch screen enabled fingers. I love summer because the days are longer and I can truly enjoy good times with my friends, either at the beach or in town.

The one thing about summer though is that in order to look good, one must be prepared. So I did quit those doughnuts back in March (well kinda), and I tried to be more regular at the gym in order to feel really great when I put that denim skirt on. I am blessed with Mediterranean skin, but at the same time have dark, curly hair. Curly hair isn’t that bad, because its thick and it can be styled easily during the hot summer days. The one downside with it is maintaining silky smooth legs.

Since my teenage years I envied my friends who have light hair and didn’t have to shave every single day. I went through different phases, waxing, shaving, battling ingrown hair, shaving again, epilating then using cold wax and so on, but in the end it all came back to square 1, I have a really thick, dark and coarse hair, which is basically not the best thing to feel carefree at the beach. I always check my skin around 5 times before I leave the house, to make sure I didn’t miss a spot somewhere, does this sound familiar?

Few months ago I was contacted by Philips, to try their IPL Hair Removal Device called Lumea Prestige. As always I first checked the online reviews, all of which were fantastic, and then thought Id give it a go. I mean I did try all sorts of things until now, so this was another attempt. Now let me talk you through all you need to know about my experience.

Summer ready legs during every season

Philips Lumea In and Out

When it arrived at home, I was surprised that it can be used on your body, face and bikini line. I used it on my legs, bikini line as well as underarms. I didn’t try it on my face, as I first needed to test the body. At first I was kind of scared that this type of hair removal system would hurt, as it’s the innovative light based technology (Intense Pulsed Light) that basically is supposed to get rid of your hair for good. I was wrong, it didn’t hurt at all, and it didn’t take as long as I thought. I would put on Netflix (currently watching Orphan Black), make a cup of Detox tea and start working on my legs. It would take me around 15 minutes for legs, and far less for everything else.

The instructions said that I need to allow 4 treatments before I see the results, but I actually already started seeing results after second use. My underarms started being almost completely hair free. I think that is because I have fairly light skin there and dark hair, but who knows. The device is actually suitable for many different skin types. As with all the other IPL devices Philips Lumea isn’t effective with very dark skin or red, light blonde and grey hair (so hurry up before it gets grey hehe).

Other things you might want to know:

  • Philips Lumea comes with 5 different light settings
  • It can be used cordless, which is super convenient
  • Comes with different attachments for face, underarms and bikini line
  • Comes with a pouch which makes it great for travelling

Now that I told you all about this almost magical device, I will discuss few more things I noticed. Philips Lumea proved to be much better than all the other options I tried before. You have to shave before, and then go with Lumea over the wanted area. I used a similar device last year, but the results weren’t as prominent as this time. I was super happy to notice the different in hair growth under my arms, because that is an area that looked dark and even when the hair started growing back it was much finer and softer, until it stopped growing after the third treatment already.

Now I am enjoying my time in Barcelona, being able to get into a swimming suit without having to worry about ingrown hairs, dark hair follicles showing even after shaving and all of those things us dark (and hairy)  girls have to think about. This is a device I would recommend to both my mother and sister, and that is a big thing for me. Its something that made me much more care and hair free.
